ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and information seems fairly reliable.
T/O & E AND STRENGTH OF: 10th Div, 27th Regt, 1st Bn, 82 mm Mortar Co, 3rd Plat.
1st Bn was composed of 3 x rifle companies, HMG Co, 82 mm Mortar Co, AT Rifle Plat, 45 mm Gun Plat, Medical Plat, Signal Plat and Supply Platoon.
82 mm Mortar Co was composed of 3 x platoons and an OP Squad.
Remarks: PW states that the 1st Bn, 27th Regt, has never entered combat.
LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNIT: (20 Sep 50)The 1st Bn, 27th Regt was in a defensive position on a mountain located approx 6 Km W NE of SONGJU.
Heard that 2nd and 3rd Bns of 27 Regt was fighting to the South of this place.
PW claims that 10th Div covered 20 Km front stretching S from point 4 Km East of SONGJU.
PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:Inducted 17 May 50 at SOKCHON. Trained until 26 Jul 50 with 27th Regt at SOKCHON.
Departed 17 May 50 at SOKCHON. Trained until 26 Jul 50 with 27th Regt at SOKCHON.
Departed SOKCHON 26 Jul 50 arrived SONGJU o/a Aug 50.
The 1st Bn, 27th Regt prepared defensive positions on a mountain 6 Km E NE of SONGJU on 25 Aug 50.
Informant deserted his unit and wondered for three days before surrendering to US and British troops at 231600 K Sep 60, 4 KM E of SONGJU.
Two (2) others from 1st Bn, 27th Regt deserted with the PW but they were later shot and killed by South Korean Rural Police (笢保圍) who were working for North Korean Army.

On 18 Sep 50, observed 3 c SU-76 at SONGJU.
MORALE:The morale of men in 1st Bn, 27th Regt was fairly high. They believed that they would win this war and personnel sacrifices did not matter.
US PW’S:o/a 9 Aug 50, observed 20 US PW’s marching North toward SEOUL from SUWON.
