2. ASSESSMENT:
Physical condition of PW was good. PW's military information was limited. He is not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
1 Aug 50: PW was conscripted into the Army at SARIWON (沙里院).
2 Aug 50: A group of 1,200 men departed SARIWON by train.
15 Aug 50: Arrived SEOUL. The troop train was attacked by aircraft twice and was able to travel only under cover of darkness. The rail line was damaged by bombing and their progress was delayed until it was repaired.
17 Aug 50: Departed SEOUL on foot.
Date unk : Arrived SUWON (水原) where the group was divided into two.500 men moved to TAEJON and 700 men (PW included) departed on foot for CH'UNGJU (忠州).
1 Sep 50: Arrived at a point 28 km North of TAEGU and the group was divided into two. 300 men remained at this point and 400 men advanced towards TAEGU.
3 Sep 50: The group of 400 men arrived at a point 24 km North of TAEGU and was assigned to the 2nd Sqd, 2nd Plt, 1st Co, 1st Bn, 14th Regt, 1st Div and was given a rifle, 11 rounds and 2 hand grenades. The 2nd Sqd had 1 HMG and the PW was detailed as ammo carrier.
12 Sep 50: 1st and 2nd Cos advanced to a point 16 km North of TAEGU and took up positions on a high hill. The hill was attacked by US troops with MG and mortar fire and the two (2) Cos fled from the hill towards the north. PW deserted and hid in a village at the foot of the hill for a period of a week.
19 Sep 50: PW surrendered to ROK forces.


Communications:
Roads: Roads were damaged in many places by bombs but temporary repairs were made for trucks to pass.
Bridge: All bridges were damaged and none were repaired. Temporary by-passes were constructed by raising the river bottom with sand bags.

Intentions:
PW heard that the objective of the 1st Div was to capture TAEGU. Further details unknown.

Morale and Propaganda:
The morale of the replacements were very low. The now conscripts did not receive adequate training and they had no will to fight. PW was told that anyone surrendering to the ROK forces would be shot but states that 50% of the new replacements did not believe this. PW nerver saw a US propaganda leaflet.
