PW appeared to be fairly intelligent. He was cooperative, but appeared to be unable to remember sequence of events (tactical movements of unit) and dates, probably because of the pain his back wound was giving him. PW considered fairly reliable by interrogator. Recommended for further interrogation upon recovery.

| 18 May 46: | Volunteered into CHILIN (吉林) Province Security Unit (吉林保安圓), CHILIN, MANCHURIA. Unit composed of 300 Korean and 200 Manchurian nationals. Received basic military training. |
| May 46-Jul 49: | Security unit stationed in CHILIN for guard duty. |
| 19 Jul 49: | 10,000 Korean troops from various units in MANCHURIA, including PW's unit, assembled at CHANGCH'UN (長春). Left same day, by rail, for North KOREA. |
| 23 Jul 49: | Arrived at NANAM (羅南). 10,000 troops activated into 5th Div. PW assigned as Plt Ldr, 1st Plt, Wire Co, Sig Bn, 5th Div. Held rank of Jr Lt. |
| 24 Jul-Jun 50: | 5th Div units trained in NANAM. Training consisted of dismounted drill, forced marches, military discipline and mountain fighting tactics. In Aug 49, PW was promoted to Lt and assigned as political officer, Wire Co, Sig Bn. |
