2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be fairly intelligent. He was very cooperative, however ignorant of military matters due to his short period of service.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
27 Jul 50: Conscripted into NKPA at KANGSANG NI (江上里). 2000 conscripts received 3 days basic military training consisting of close order drill. No rifle marksmanship.
30 Jul 50: 1,800 conscripts, unarmed, including PW, left KANGSANG-RI by rail.
2 Aug 50: Arrived at SEOUL via HAMHUNG (咸興), YONGHUNG (永興), WONSAN (元山), CH'ORWON (鉄原), UIJONGBU (議政府). 300 conscripts deserted from unit enroute.
5 Aug 50: 1,500 conscripts left SEOUL on foot.
15 Aug 50: Arrived at TAEJON (大田) over highway via SUWON (水原), P'YONGTAEK (平澤), CHOCHIWON (鳥致院).
18 Aug 50: 1,500 conscripts left TAEJON on foot.
25 Aug 50: Arrived at KUMCH'ON over highway via OKCH'ON (沃川), YONGDONG (永洞).
28 Aug 50: 1,500 conscripts uniformed but unarmed arrived in 3rd Div staging area at point 5 km Southeast of KUMCH'ON. PW assigned to 7th Inf Regt.
29 Aug-11 Sep: 3rd Div deployed in POKSONG DONG Area along west bank of NAKTONG River. Strafed and bombed by US aircraft. Light casualties. Conscripts received several hours rifle training.
12 2100 K Sep 50: 3rd Div units began fording NAKTONG River. No opposition encountered.
13 Sep 50: PW's unit, 5th Co assembled in WAEGWAN. Strafed and bombed by US aircraft. 5th Co rejoined 2nd Bn. Left WAEGWAN immediately over highway in direction of TAEGU.
14 Sep 50: 2nd Bn left highway at point 3 km southeast from WAEGWAN.
14 Sep 50: Took up defensive positions in wooded mountain 3 km north from departure point on highway.
18 Sep 50: 2nd Bn positions shelled by US arty-mortar. PW and one other from same unit (1st Plt) fled 5th Co area.
19 0800 K Sep 50: Captured by attacking US Army unit on dirt road to TAEGU 6 km East of WAEGWAN.

4th Co - strength - 110, 1 × mortar
5th Co - strength - 80, 2 × mortar (50 mortar shells remain)
6th Co - strength - 110, 1 × mortar

NKPA Units:
2-5 Aug 50 at SEOUL PW observed NKPA troops on streets. 800 from SINUIJU Area were enroute to combat area in South KOREA (hearsay from soldier with unit)

Div Hq:
28 Aug 50 at 3rd Div staging area, observed Div Hq located in one of a group of 10 houses situated 5 km southeast KUMCH'ON.
Wooded hills surrounded the area. Narrow dirt road extended past houses from KUMCH'ON-WAEGWAN highway, north.

Armor:
2-15 Aug 50, over highway 3rd Div route, between SEOUL and TAEJON, observed ten (10) T-34/85 medium tanks travelling singly to the south.
