3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
| 1 Apr 50: | PW was inducted at HOERYONG (會寧). Trained for months with the Training Bn, 15th Div. Training consisted of dismounted drill, military courtesy, manual of arms with wooden rifles, operation of 7.62mm “MAXIM” HMG, etc. |
| 17 Jun 50: | Approx 210 men including PW were promoted to Jr Sgt and departed by train for NAJIN (羅津). |
| 18 Jun 50: | The 210 men reached NAJIN and were assigned to the 45th Regt. |
| 21 Jun 50: | 15 Div (45th, 48th and 50th Regts and Arty Regt) departed for the South by train. |
| 25 Jun 50: | Reached KUMHWA (金化). |
| 3 Jul 50: | Advanced to 2 km S of YOJU (驪州) via HAWACH'ON (花川) and CH'UNCH'ON (春川) and fought for two days. |
| o/a 10 Jul 50: | Advanced to UMSONG (陰城). Saw five days of action. |
| o/a 17 Jul 50: | Advanced to KOESAN (槐山). |

| o/a 20 Aug 50: | The Div reached KUNWI (軍威). PW was sick for 2 days and was hispitalized at the Ⅱ Corp Hospital in KUNWI for 3 days. |
| o/a 6 Sep 50: | Upon discharge from the hospital PW was attached to the 7th Co, 3rd Bn, 7th Regt, 3rd Div at YUHAK-SAN (遊鶴山) (1146-1463). PW fought with the unit for 3 days at YUHAK-SAN. |
| o/a 9 Sep 50: | PW was ordered to go back to the 45th Regt approx 8 km N of YONGCH'ON (永川). PW was assigned to the ration plt of the 45th Regt. |
| o/a 17 Sep 50: | The 45th retreated to HWASAN-DONG (花山洞). As the Regt retreated to the N, PW remained in this area because he wanted to surrender. |
| 19 Sep 50 PW: | surrendered to ROK troops somewhere North of HWASAN DONG. |
Composition of Unit (As of 16 Sep 50):
45th Regt:
3rd Bn - only 23 men. One HMG and about 8 LMGs. Most of the riflemen were armed with SMGs.
SMG Co - About 40 men armed with SMGs and M1938 carbines.
45mm AT Gun Co 2 × 45mm AT guns.
Signal Co - About 12 men and 3 field telephones.
Vehicles - Only two (10 Wheel) trucks remained in 45th Regt.
Note: One 82mm mortar in Mortar Bn. Each man carried approx 150 rounds of ammunition and 2 hand grenades. Approx 30 ammunition boxes () were piled up in a village located approx 2 km N of HWASAN-DONG (1178-1467). Ammunition dump was located approx 70 m E of the houses. The ammunition boxes were covered with straw sacks.
Armor:
PW observed 6 × T-34/85 tanks moving S 1 km S of UIHUNG (義興) o/a 10 Sep 50. Two (2) of the tanks were bombed by UN aircraft. The others proceeded south.
Location of Hqs:
From 26 Aug 50 to 29 Aug 50 PW observed the Ⅱ Corps Hqs while in KUNWI. The Hqs was located approx 2 km N of KUNWI. Ⅱ Corps Hqs at 1154-1487 on a map. There were about 30 houses in the village. The 1st and 8th Div Hqs were also located there. The Ⅱ Corps Hqs, 1st and 8th Div Hqs were using the caves at the foot of a mountain located 150m W of the village.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of the troops was very low. The troops were ordered not to pick up leaflets, however, PW road surrender leaflets secretly. PW believes that surrender leaflets would be effective on the replacements.
4. GENERAL:North Korean Currency Information:
One N. Korean Won was worth 10 S. Korean Won.
Red Cross Insignia:
PW stated that the Red Cross Insignia was used on hospital buildings.
