3. MILITARY HISTORY:PW volunteered into the North Korean Army on 15 Jul, '47 at WONSAN (元山) and was attached to the WONSAN Security Unit.
PW was a Sgt until he arrived at PYONG YANG. When assigned to the SEOUL Defense Regt, he was given the rank of Capt and was assigned duty of CO for the 1st Co, 1st Bn, SEOUL Defense Regt.
The SEOUL Defense Regt consisted of 4 Bns (Bn strength 500 men). Each man was armed with a rifle (50% Russ, 30% Jap, 20% US) and was given 15-20 rounds of ammunition. About 50% of the officers were armed with pistols and carried about 10 rounds of ammunition.

Circumstance of capture; On the morning of 25 Sep, '50 PW was directing approx 100 men to battle positions when his position was over-run by UN troops. PW was captured immediately.
