2. ASSESSMENT:
Physical condition: Good
Very cooperative during interrogation.
Formerly in the Japanese Army at CHIBA Prefecture, Japan.
Education: Six years Primary School.
Recommend further interrogation at higher headquarters.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
PW volunteered on 21 Jul 47 at CHINNAM PO and was assigned to 4th Plt, 9th Co, 34th Bn of 1st Security Brigade. Received light training at CHINNAM PO until Oct 48 when his platoon was sent to HWUN CHO PYONG for border security duty near MANCHURIA. 1st Security Brigade was deactivated on 1 Dec 48 and the personnel assigned to seven new Border Security Units. PW was assigned to the 6th Security Unit at SU PUNG, promoted to Assistant Platoon leader. In May 49, all seven Security Units were combined at NAM CHONG and designated the 3rd Brigade. PW's 6th Bn was sent to WUL LUK MYUNG near the 38th parallel as Border Guards. Here he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. In May 50 6th Bn moved to HAEJU then to KAESONG. At KAESONG (middle of Jul 50) all Bns of 3rd Brigade were combined, added recruits, the unit redesignated as the 9th Div. Division immediately moved to KYONGSANG and was called the KYONGSANG City Division.
1st and 2nd Regt of the 9th Div were dispatched toward TAEGU in middle of Aug 50. Enroute to TAEGU 1st Regt was attacked by American aircraft and TAEJON and was disorganized with heavy casualties inflicted. 1st Regt was reorganized at TAEJON, recruits added and it continued towards its destination. Both Regts went into battle on 2 Sep 50. PW read a bulletin issued by the Regt Commander and also read orders calling for the 1st and 2nd Regt to work in coordination with the 105th Tank Division which was already deployed near TAEGU. Orders said that one rifle platoon would deploy behind one heavy tank, one rifle squad would follow each light tank.
9th Div Hqs moved with 1st and 2nd Regt.
3rd Regt moved to INCHON from KYONGSANG on 21 Aug where it remained for about 10 days, then moved on foot to YONGDONG PO. Before joining the Division, Regt deberked at KUM CHONG and set up defense positions. Reason for not joining Division not known. On orders, Regt departed KUMCHONG on 17th Sep 50 to go to KYONGSANG. Arrived at YONGDUNG PO AT 0400 hrs 20 Sep. Here PW first heard about the American landing from his Bn Commander.
The 3rd Bn was committed to the front lines on night of 20 Sep. 1st and 2nd Bns remained behind as reserves. 3rd Bn was annihilated by American Forces on 21 Sep. (80% killed and all equipment destroyed).
PW stated that he surrendered because it was useless to fight any more and he would be shot if he retreated.

Intentions: 1st and 2nd Bns of the 3rd Regt, 9th Div remained as reserves on 20 Sep when the 3rd Bn was committed to the front line.
