FIELD REPORT (164 - MISDI - 0941) 24 September 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: HONG, Dok Chun (洪德俊) (홍덕준)

ORGANIZATION: 13th Div, 23rd Regt, 2nd Bn, HMG Co, 2nd Plt, 1st Sqd
DUTIES: Rifleman, due to lack of HMG
EDUCATION: Primary School (6 years)
AGE: 19
OCCUPATION: Farmer
ADDRESS: PYONGAN NAMDO, KAEC’HON GUN, CHOYANG MYON, PONG MYONG RI OLYMDONG, #32 (平安南道 价川郡 朝陽面 風鳴里 梧林洞)
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 231800 K Sep 50 Surrendered at a point 20 Km North of WAEGWAN and 4 Km east of NAKTONG River to American troops.
INTERROGATOR: C.H.S.


2. ASSESSMENT:
On 23 Sep 50, 8 soldiers voluntarily gave up to US troops, because they were disgusted with the NK Army.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. T/O & E and Strength of: 13th Div, 23rd Regt, 2nd Bn, HMG Co, 2nd Plt, 1st Sqd
One Battalion composed of two Infantry companies, one HMG company, and a Mortar company.
Each company composed of four platoons and each platoon composed of four squads.

b. Personal & Unit History:
Inducted 26 Jul 50 at CHINNAMPO.
Received 3 days basic training.
80 out of 1,000 recruits were placed into the 13th Division on 17 Sep 50 at TABU DONG.
Departed CHINNAMPO 1 Aug 50 marched - arrived TABU DONG, 17 Sep 50 and voluntarily gave up to American forces on 23 Sep 50 at 20 Km North of WAEGWAN.

c. Morale:
PW stated that the morale in the 2nd Platoon, HMG Company was low because they were forces into the Army. He further stated that if there were an opportunity to surrender, most of them would voluntarily give up.

4. MISCELLANEOUS:
PW stated that two soldiers deserted their HMG Company on 19 Sep 50, but they were cuaght on 21 Sep 50. On 23 Sep 50, 8 men voluntarily gave up to American troops.
