2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be rather unintelligent. He was very confused in giving his chronology. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
10 Mar 50 - Inducted into NKPA at CHINNAMPO (鎭南浦). Received 3 months basic training.
23 Jun 50 - The 4th Div departed by train for YONCH'ON.
25 Jun 50 - Arrived in YONCH'ON (漣川)
27 Jun 50 - Left YONCH'ON on foot and crossed 38° Parallel S of YONCH'ON.
O/a 30 Jun 50 - 4th Div arrived in SEOUL via UIJONGBU with very little ROK resistance.
O/a 20 Jul 50 - 4th Div arrived at the outskirts of KONGJU (公州) without having any engagements. They marched along the main road via SUWON (水原) and P'YOUNGTAEK (平澤). There they had a major engagement with UN Forces.
O/a 24 Jul 50 - 4th Div fought another battle at the river W of T'AEJON.
O/a 27 Jul 50 - Entered T'AEJON.
O/a 10 Aug 50 - Entered KOCH'ANG. Arrived in KOCHANG (居昌) via KUMCH'ON (金泉).
O/a 13 Aug 50 - Advanced to HYOPCH'ON (陜川) where they encountered UN resistance. PW arrived in SINBAN-Ni (新反里) but elements of 4th Div had already crossed the NAKTONG River.
O/a 20 Aug 50 - PW's artillery unit crossed NAKTONG River N of SIMBAN-Ni. The infantry had advanced to CHANGNY'ONG (昌寧). The artillery was set up on both sides of the river.
O/a 28 Aug 50 - The entire 4th Div retreated W of the river. Div Arty lost about 12 × 76-mm Guns during the withdrawal to the west side of the river. The 4th Div reorganized at SINBAN-Ni. PW stated that the replacements were mostly S. Koreans.
O/a 5 Sep 50 - The 4th Div counterattacked and recrossed the NAKTONG River and advanced about 2 km E of the river. At this point the Div could not advance in face of enemy resistance. The artillery sustained loss of 8 pieces to air strikes.
19 Sep 50 - General withdrawal of the entire 4th Div took place. PW heard that the main elements of the 4th Div retreated toward SIN-BAN-Ni. PW was captured on 20 Sep 50. The artillery pieces had already been withdrawn. The Div in the meantime withdrew to SINBAN-Ni.

Communication:
PW was a telephone lineman for the Div Arty Hqs. Lines usually laid up to a distance of to 2 km. The telephone communication between the observation post to the gun positions to the Arty Bn Hqs to the Div Arty Hqs was completed within 4 to 5 hours.

Intentions:
The first objective of the 4th Div was CH'ANGNYONG, then MIRYANG.

Morale and Propaganda:
PW saw UN propaganda leaflets which gave him, as well as other NKPA troops, the desire to surrender, but could not find the opportunity to do so.

4. GENERAL:
Observed about 50 to 60 US PsW at SUWON about 15 Jul 50. PsW were enroute to SEOUL by trucks. There was one US stretcher case.
Observed 6 US PsW near NAKTONG River near SINBAN-Ni around 1 Sep 50.
