Evaluation:
PW was fairly cooperative and gave information freely.

Military History:
Inducted 5 Nov 47 at YONGHO-RI. Trained 3 months at CH’ONGJIN (淸津) Railroad Constabulary. Training Center. On Feb 48, was assigned to 8th Railroad Constabulary Company and guarded the Railroad Tunnel located approximately 12 km N of KILCHU (吉州), until 6 Aug 49. Length of Tunnel is approximately 800 meters.
7 Aug 49, was assigned to the 5th Div stationed in NANAM (羅南) Trained as squad leader 4th Sqd, 2nd Pit, HMG Co, until 18 Aug 50. Departed NANAM, 18 Jun 50, by train - arrived KANSONG (杆城) 25 Jun 50. The HMG Co with 5th Div Supply Unit departed 5 days later than the Div due to loading of supplies on trains. He estimated there were about 300 men of the supply unit remaining with the HMG Co, The supplies loaded by the HMG Co were one car load of rice and three car loads of dried fish, PW does not know what type of supplies Div Supply Unit loaded on train.
At KANSONG, the HMG Co joined the 11th Regt of the 5th Div. Other units of the Div were not observed. PW does not know what became of the supplies loaded on the train after KANSONG. The 11th Regt departed KANSONG o/a 3 July 50, marched - arrived KANGNUNG (江陵) 7 JUL 50. Departed KANGNUNG 11 Jul 50.- matched - arrived YONGWOL (寧越) 16 Jul 50.

Departed CH’UNYANG 1 Aug 50 - marched - arrived CHONGJA-RI (1200-1470) 13 Aug 50,
Departed CHONGJA-RI 27 Aug 50, after occupying the town and pushed on to TAEYON-DONG (大蓮洞), arriving on morning of 28 Aug 50. The 11th Regt was at 2/3 strength, PW observed about 200 replacements at CHONGJA-RI. They had no weapons and wore clean uniforms. One of hie friends told him they were to join the 11th Regt at TAEYON-DONG.
At TAEYON-DONG, PW did not observe any other units of the 5th Div but heard that the other 2 regiments were in the area, one regiment (No, Unknown) to the NE of TAEYON-DONG (distance unknown) and the other SW of TAEYON-DONG.
29 Aug 50, the 11th Regt moved to P’OHANG-DONG but PW and another man from his unit being so sick followed 2 km behine the 11th Regt and was captured by ROK troops 29 1130K Aug 50. Before PW was captured, he heard firing 2 km ahead of him.

Weapons and Personnel:
5th Div - unknown; 11th Regt - 1,000 men; 1st Bn - 300 men; HMG Co - 20 men; 2nd Plt - 6-8 men. No squad.
PW stated the HMG Co was distributed among the rifle companies at TAEYOG-DONG due to shortage of men.
Riflemen were all armed with M1891/30 rifles, 70 rounds, 2-4 grenades. Rifle squad leader armed with PPsh SMG, 2-4 grenades. Rifle Asst squad leader, DP LMG.
One HMG Co in battalion. 12 x HMG in company, 1 x HMG per squad, which was a Maxim HMG M1910 w/Sokolov Mount. 1,000 or more rounds per HMG. Riflemen in HMG Co were armed with M1891/30 rifle, 70 rounds and 2 grenades.
Observed 6 x 62-mm Mortars in battalion.

Armor:
Observed 7 x T-34/85 Medium tanks near HUNGHAE (1230-1460), 27 Aug 50, during day light hours parked 2 km W of HUNGHAE Village by a mountain creek, The 7 tanks were all camouflaged with green tree branches, The tanks were in good condition. No personnel observed.

Artillery:
Observed 2 x 76mm M1942 AT Guns 3 km SW of HUNGHAE, 27 Aug 50, along the mountain creek located 800 meters from the tanks mentioned above. There were about 6 men in the area.

Vehicles:
Negative

Supplies:
No replacement of weapons or ammunition,
Usually ate two meals a day or less; meal consisted of rice. PW does not know where rice came from,

Enemy Intentions:
Objective of the 5th Div was to occupy P’OHANG-DONG by end of Aug 50.
