PW was of law intelligence and had only a limited period of military service.
Military History:Inducted 6 Jul 50, NANAM. PW received 9 days of basic infantry training at NANAN.
Departed NANAM 18 Jul 50 by rail with 1,000 conscripts. 19 0500 Jul 50, the train which carried these troops was bombed and strafed by US aircraft causing damage to the locomotive and a few troops near SOUNGJIN-NI. Due to the damage to the locomotive and railroad tracks, PW and the 1,000 conscripts remained at SOUNGJIN-NI for a day. The following evening (20 2000 Jul 50) departed SOUNGJIN-NI by rail arriving SEOUL 29. Jul 50. Departed SEOUL 29 Jul 50 - marched - arrived ICH'ON 31 Jul 50. Departed ICH'ON 2 Aug 50 - marched - arrived CH'UNGJU (忠州) 7 Aug 50. Departed CH'UNGJU 8 Aug 50 - marched - arrived MUN'GYONG 13 Aug 50.
At MUN'GYONG the 1,000 men (replacements) were divided into groups cf a hundred and sent to various units (disposition unknown). When PW arrived at MUN'GYONG there were 1,000 men in the 1st Regt, 1st Div. PW and 400 replacements were assigned to 1st Regt, 1st Div 14 Aug 50. PW heard from his 4th Co CO that besides the 1st Regt, 1st Div there was the 13th Div in MUN'GYONG. 15 Aug 50, 1st Regt, 1st Div departed MUN'GYONG - marched - arrived HAMCH'ANG 18 Aug 50. Departed HAMCH'ANG 20 Aug 50 - marched - arrived KUNWI 24 Aug 50. Between HAMCH'ANG and KUNWI (20 Aug - 24 Aug 50) 1st Regt was bombed and strafed by UN aircraft and shelled about throe times. During the above period the 1st Regt lost about 200 man and 4 x 45mm guns.
25 Aug 50, the 1st Regt was broken up into Bns (disposition unknown) at KUNWI. PW's Bn (1st) marched to a mountain 12 km S of KUNWI, arriving at the mountain 26 Aug 50. After being on the mountain for two days (26-27 Aug 50) they were bombed and strafed by UN aircraft suffering many casualties. Approx 300 men of the 1st Bn were killed or wounded. PW also was wounded in this attack.
After the bombing and strafing by the aircraft ceased all wounded were gathered and placed in one spot on the mountain. The wounded spent the night in the mountain with the rest of the 1st Bn numbering about 300 men. The following morning (28 Aug 50)when PW woke up all the able bodied troops had left the wounded. Since PW had a minor wound he went down to the village (name unk) and changed into some civilian clothes given to him by a farmers.
After changing his clothes, PW entered a vacant house and searched for food; while he was preparing this food he was picked up by ROK troops.
Weapons and Personnel:Present; strength and equipment (27 Aug 50) Bn - 300 men, 12 km S of KUNWI. Other details lacking.
Supplies:PW received average of two meals per day (29 Jul - 27 Aug 50). Food was looted from farmers. Ammunition last received, KUNWI, 24 Aug 50, 30 rounds per man. Source of supplies unknown.
Enemy Intentions:Objective of 1st Div was TAEGU.
