Cooperative, information limited because PW is illiterate, was in 14th Div only 3 days, travelled at night only, and was not familiar with terrain he traversed. PW heard from platoon leader that he was in the 14th Div.
Military History:Inducted 2 Jul 50 - KAECH’ON (价川), Trained in close order drill and manual of arms with a wooden rifle, 3 days,
Departed KAECH’ON 23 Jul 50 by rail - arrived with about 1,000 replacements SEOUL - 28 Jul 50.
Departed SEOUL - 28 Jul 50 - marched (crossed HAN River by ferry) - arrived MUN’GYONG (聞慶) (1100-1540) - o/a 15 Aug 50.
Departed MUN’GYONG o/a 15 Aug 50 - marched - arrived - NAKTONG-NI (洛東里) (1120-1490) 23 Aug 50,
Departed NAKTONG-NI 23 Aug 50 - joined 23rd Regt about 15 km SE of NAKTONG-NI - marched - arrived KASAN-MYON (架山面) - 25 Aug 50.
Shelled by artillery and attacked by aircraft 26 Aug 50. PW deserted his unit and surrendered to ROK soldiers, 27 Aug 50.
Foreign Elements:Observed none
Personnel:1st Co, 1st Bn, 23rd Regt - Strength about 60 men left (27 Aug 50)
Casualties: 1st Co, 1st Bn - 40 killed, 20 wounded (27 Aug 50)/
Vehicles:Observed 5 Soviet-type “jeeps” carrying about 15 company-grade officers approx 10 km N of KASAN-MYON, 24 Aug 50.
Supplies:Received average 1 rice ball a day
Enemy Intentions:Objective of 14th Div - TAEGU.
No gas training or equipment received.
Additional Information:PW never heard of 1st Div. PW believes NKPA officers would shoot EM if they heard the EM complaining. Saw no ‘Safe Conduct Passes.’
