20 May 50, PW assigned to the let Inf Brig, 2nd Bn, 5th Co, 1st Plt, 3rd Sqd. (Bn APO 5322).
26 Jun 50, the 2nd Bn departed INJE - marched - arrived SANGNAM (上南) 29 Jun 50,
Departed SANGNAM - 3 Jul 50 - marched - arrived YANGYANG (襄陽) 5 Jul 50.
Departed YANGYANG - 5 Jul 50 - marched - arrived KANGNUNG 8 Jul 50. About 12 m N of KANGNUNG (江陵) the 2nd Bn, 1st Inf Brig was redesignated 3rd Bn, 8th Div.
At this point there were 4 other battalions in 8th Div besides their battalion,
3rd Bn departed KANGNUNG 9 Jul 50 - marched - arrived CHECHON (堤川) 16 Jul 50.
Departed CHECH'ON 16 Jul 50 - marched - arrived YECH’ON (禮泉) 20 Jul 50.
Departed YECH’ON 22 Jul 50 - marched - arrived ANDONG - 25 Jul 50. At ANDONG, PW's unit (3rd Bn) was fired upon by ROK artillery, Minor casualties received. 1st Co, 3rd Bn - 5 men killed, 7 or 8 men wounded, other units, unknown.
Departed ANDONG 25 Jul 50 - marched - arrived UISONG 6 Aug 50.
Departed UISONG 9 Aug 50 - marched - arrived YODOK-TONG, 20 km N of YONGCH'ON (1190-1450) 28 Aug 50.
29 Aug 50, about 0300 hours, PW’s unit (1st Co) separated from his battalion and headed for a mountain 2 km E of YODOK-TONG Village. Upon reaching the mountain area, PW’s unit was attacked by an ROK Unit.
During tile attack most of the men of the company fled, however PW hid in a ditch until the following day when he was captured by ROK 19th Regt.
Personalities:8th Div CG: O, PAEK YONG (吳百龍) (오백용) Maj Gen; Age, 45 approx.
Weapons and Personnel:Co - 150 men; Plt - 45 men; Squad - 10 men.
Riflemen armed with M1891/30. rifles, 200 rounds, 2 grenades. Squad leaders, PPsh M1941 Sub-machine guns, 3 x 70 rounds drums, 2 grenades. Asst squad leader, DP LMG (285 rounds) or M1891/30 rifles. Officer, Tokarev M1933 pistols or PPsh M1943 Sub-machine guns.
HMG Co in Bn - 70 - 75 men, 12 x Maxim HMGs M1910, 2,000 rounds per HMG. Mortar Co in Bn.- 70·75 mm, number or mortar unknown, however observed 6 x 82-mm Mortars.
inf Co - 2 x HMGs, 4 x LMGs.
Present Strength of unit (29 Aug 50):1st Co, 3rd Bn, 41 men, 1 x HMG, 2 x DP LMGs, 5-6 x Sub-machine guns, ammunition supplies, very low.
Armor:4 x T-34/85 tanks, 12 km NE of YODOK-TONG, 27 Aug 50.
Artillery, Vehicles:No information.
Supplies:PW received average of 1 meal a day, Food was looted from farmers.
Ammunition last received, UISONG (1160-1490) 23 Aug 50, 30 rounds per man.
Source of supplies unknown.
Enemy Intentions:Objective of 8th Div - YONGCH'ON.
