5. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
During the period Aug 50 to o/a 19 Oct 50 PW observed one Russian Naval officer at the Bn HQ (YUJlN 楡津) on 2 or 3 occasions. PW saw this Russian officer from a distance and did not know that he was a Russian until told so by one of his fields. He was wearing a dark blue uniform.

6. CODE NUMBER:
2nd Bn: APO 4946

7. ORGANIZATION:
PW denied having knowledge of Bns other than the 2nd Bn, 938 Unit.
The 2nd Bn consisted of the 4th, 5th and 6th Inf Cos. (Known as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Cos respectively until o/a 19 Oct 50.) There were approx 160 officers and men in each Co. Most of the men who were middle school students and high school students were NCOs.
O/a 19 Oct 50 there was a general shift of officer assignments in this Unit. Many of the officers were promoted one rank.
About 2 or 3 days before the unit departed YUJIN (destination and purpose unknown) the troops were issued weapons. Each man was issued a rifle with 70 rds of ammo and 2 hand grenades. The Sqd leader, assistant Sqd leader, Plat leader and assistant Plat leader were given PPSH sub-machineguns and 2 magazines of ammo each.
The following were the other weapons in the 2nd Bn.
HMGs - 2 in a company, each with 4 boxes of ammo.
LMGs - 1 in a squad, with 2 magazines of ammo.
Telephones - Unknown number in Bn HQs.
When PW first entered the 938th Unit on 13 Aug 50 it was known as the Naval Technical School. It appeared that there had been a Naval unit here previously but that the 2nd Bn was being organized at the time.
The men were issued blue naval uniforms but they wore them for about a week and changed to army uniforms. The officers also changed their uniforms.
PW thus surmised that the 2nd Bn was changed from a naval unit to an army unit.
