3. MILITARY HISTORY:5 Oct 50 - Inducted at CHON SO (川西) outskirts of HAMHUNG and sent to SINSAN (新上) for physical examination. On the same date, left for PYONGYANG by train with 40 others.
10 Oct 50 - Arrived at PYONGYANG. (PW had to walk some distance before arriving here due to the air-raids.
PW was assigned to 503rd Unit, Engr Bn, 4th Co, 3rd Plat and issued a uniform. That night the 4th Co (70 men) left PYONGYANG on foot for an unknown destination. The 4th Co marched 10-15km every night obtaining food wherever they could.
25 Oct 50 - Arrived at HUICHON (黑天). Strength reduced to 50 men. (20 men were said to have escaped during air-raids or under the cover of darkness.)
PW also escaped upon hearing the Co's destination was KANGGYE (江界).
o/a 5 Nov 50 - After roving in the mountains for day, PW arrived at CHANGJIN (長津). Upon hearing NKA troops, hid in a civilian house.
10 Nov 50 - Left CHANGJIN.
15 Nov 50 - Arrived at SANGJONG NI (上通里) and went to the local police station to surrender.

O/a 5 Nov 50 - o/a 10 Nov 50 at CHANGJIN, PW saw at least 10-20 CCF troops residing in each house. Although PW was unable to identify these troops, he estimates their strength at approx 10,000.
O/a 5 Nov 50, when PW was approaching CHANGJIN at night, he saw a large body of troops marching westward (towad KANGGYE 江界).
PW was unable to recognize the troops or their arms due to the darkness but heard from the inhabitants that they were of division strength.
6. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:Due to his short military service, PW did not know the organization or strength of the unit. He definitely knows, that the Engr Bn was under the 503rd Unit.
The Engr Bn consisted of 4 Cos, each Co of 4 Plats, and each Plat of 3 Sqds, The T/O for this Bn was said to be 400, about 100 in a Co, 23 in a Plat and 7 in a Sqd. However, due to the shortage of men, this Bn had only 300 mm before leaving PYONGYANG. Judging from the number of men last seen in 4th Co during the march to HUICHON, source believes that the total strength has been reduced to 200-250 (25 Oct 50).
PW observed only one 7.62mm “MOSSIN-NAGANT” M1924/27 carbine to a Plat The troops, when marching, carried shovels, picks, or hoes.
There was only one truck in which these tools were carried. (This truck is believed to have been bombed enroute.)
7. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:Food was obtained through village local government committees (地方 自治 委員會). The only food available was corn and sweet potatoes, and these were not plentiful.
PW often had to march without food for a day or more.
PW observed no supplies being transported to his unit.
8. STRAGGLERS:On 25 Oct 50 at HUICHON, PW observed numerous stragglers moving north-eastward. About 50% were armed with rifles.
PW heard from 4th Co Commander that these stragglers were NKA and TONPUK GUN (東北軍) (Troops from MANCHURIA). (Interrogator believes PW means CCF since the uniforms worn were CCF uniforms and they spoke Chinese.)
9. MORALE:PW stated that the morale was very low, bacause of the hardships suffered and certainty of defeat.
On 24 Oct 50, PW found a UN propaganda leaflet on a mountain just before approaching CHANGJIN, As a result he went to the local police to surrender.
