PW was cooperative however, information seems limited due to lack of service.
3. ESTIMATED STRENGTH OF UNIT: (as of 10 Sep 50)Rifleman armed with M1891/30 Rifles, 40 rounds, 1 grenade.
2nd Co, 85 men; 50 original men. 35 replacements, armed with one (1) MAXIM HMG, four (4) LMGs.
4. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:Inducted on 15 Aug 50 at PYONGCHANG (平昌). PW and 800 men left PYONGCHANG without taking and military training. They marched - arrived WONJU on 19 Aug 50. There, PW and 800 men had clothing issued.
Departed WONJU on same day. Marched - arrived CHECHON on 21 Aug.
Departed CHECHON on 22 Aug - marched - arrived ANDONG d/u Aug 50. Stayed overnight.
Departed ANDONG d/u Aug. Marched arrived UISONG d/u Aug stayed overnight.
Departed UISONG d/u Aug marched through mountain, arrived at 8 Km N of YONGCHON on 7 Sep 50. There, PW and 800 men were assigned to various units in 15th Div.
Upon assignment, they were issued M1891/30 Rifles and one grenade. From there, PW (50th Div) advanced through YONGCHON on 8 Sep. PW was separated from his unit after receiving machine gun fire and was captured by ROK on 10 Sep 50 at 4 SW of YONGCHON.
5. ARMOR:PW stated that four (4) T 34/85 tanks came down to YONGCHON area. Of these four, 3 were destroyed before they came into YONGCHON. Date unknown.
6. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:Received average of 2 rice balls a day. All food was confiscated from farmers.
PW’s original issue of ammo left at time of capture.
7. ENEMY INTENTIONS:Objective of 15th Div was TAEGU via YONGCHON.
8. SOUTH KOREAN SENTIMENTS:South Koreans did not welcome the North Koreans because of the killing in this civil war.
