3. ESTIMATED STRENGTH:2nd Co., 50 men, armed with one (1) LMG, two (2) ammo boxes. One (1) LMG, two (2) ammo boxes. One (1) PPsh SMG, two (2) magazines and M1899/30 rifles, 200 rounds per man.
4. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:Inducted on 25 July 50, at KECHON (渓川). Trained as rifleman with wooden rifle at KECHON till 15 Aug 50. PW and 2,000 unarmed replacements departed KECHON o/a 16 Aug by railroad-arrived SEOUL d/u Aug.
At SEOUL, 1,000 men remained and PW and 1,000 man left on same day by railroad-arrived SUWON (水原) d/u Aug. Departed SUWON d/u Aug arrived HAJANG-DONG (下場洞) d/u Aug. There PW was told by his Plt Ldr that he was assigned to 13th Div 21st Regt, 1st Bn, 2nd Co., 2nd Plt., 4th Squad, and received M1899/30 rifle, 200 rounds.
PW and his Co., separated from 1st Bn and marched down to TABU-DONG (多富洞). There the Co., was attacked by US forces. On 8 Sep 50, PW was separated from his unit and was captured by "A" Co., 8th Cav., Regt, patrol.
5. FOOD AND SUPPLIES:All the food was supplied from evacuated farmers’ houses.
Received average of one rice ball a day.
PW had original ammo issue at time of capture. PW claims that he never had a chance to fire.
6. ENEMY INTENTIONS:PW was told by political officer that they were never to surrender under any circumstances and were ordered to fight to the last man. Death by UN Forces was supposed to be consequence of surrender.
Objective of 13th Div was TAEGU.
7. S. KOREAN SENTIMENTS:Most of the farmers welcomed the North Korean Army because they believe that farm rents will be abolished under the NK system.
