1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: PAK, UN KI (朴殷淇) (박은기)

ORGN: (PW was uncertain of his organization, because he is a South Korean who was forced into service with the North Koreans. He was not informed of his unit designation but learned from a Pvt (name unk) that it was the 1st Div, 2nd Regt, 3rd Bn, 4th Co, 4th Plt, Sqd (unk) ).
EDUCATION: Seoul Teacher’s College, 5 yrs
OCCUPATION: “YAKSAN” Primary School principal
ADDRESS: CHOLLA NAMDO, WANDO GUN, YAKSAN MYON, YAKSAN PRIMARY SCHOOL (全羅南道 莞島郡 藥山面 藥山 國民學校)
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 1 Sep 50, at CHINYANG (晉陽) approx 20 Km North of MASAN.


INTERROGATOR’S REMARKS:
PW was an ammo bearer. On 1 Sep 50 PW’s unit (3rd Bn) was shelled by unknown ROK artillery suffering 600 casualties. During shelling, the remaining troops (70 men) were separated.
PW was captured by unknown ROK troops (1 Sep 50) while proceeding on the main highway toward PUSAN.
PW was cooperative, however due to limited military service, information limited. PW seems fairly reliable.

T/O & E OF PW’S UNIT:
Hearsay: Bn comprised of 700 men.
Riflemen armed with M1891/30 rifles, 100 rounds each, two (2) grenades each. No other information.

DISPOSITION OF ABOVE UNITS:
PW observed two (2) Bns (1st & 2nd Bn) of the 2nd Regt, 1st Div in a Mt 1 Km West of CHINYANG GUN, KUSAN MYON, TAKTORI village. Last observation 31 Aug 50.

ESTIMATED STRENGTH OF ABOVE UNIT.
3rd Bn: No troops (1 Sep 50)

PERSONALITIES:
3rd Bn C.O.: KIM, Pan Su (金判守), Rank: Capt, Age: 27 yrs (approx)
PW believes that Capt KIM deserted the North Korean Army on 31 Aug 50. No other information.

PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
PW was forced into the North Korean Army on 15 Aug 50, at HAENAM (海南).
PW received no military training.
Departed HAENAM on 15 Aug 50 with the 3rd Bn, arrived at KANGJIN 16 -Aug 50.
Departed KANGJIN - 17 Aug 50 - marched - arrived - SUNCHON - 19 Aug 50.
Departed SUNCHON - 19 Aug 50 - marched - arrived - HADONG - 20 Aug 50.
Departed HADONG - 21 Aug 50 - marched - arrived CHINJU - 22 Aug 50.
Departed CHINJU - 2 Aug 50 - marched - arrived CHINYANG GUN - 24 Aug 50.
Spent about one week in CHINYANG area doing-nothing. On 1 Sep 50 (2400 hrs), PW’s unit (3rd Bn) was shelled by unknown ROK Force and PW was captured.

ARMOR:
Observed one (1) T-34/85 medium tank at CHINYANG on 24 Aug 50.
Tank seemed very new. No other information,

ARTILLERY:
No information.

FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
PW received three (3) meals per day. One (1) bowl of rice and few vegetables constituted a meal.
Food was looted from farms & village people.
Ammunition was carried by individuals and South Koreans, who were forced, like PW, into carrying ammunition boxes (two (2) box per man).
No other information.

ENEMY INTENTIONS:
The objective of 1st Div was PUSAN via unknown points.
No other information.

MORALE:
Troop’s morale was highest when they accomplished their mission.

KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER UNITS:
No information.

CAPTURED EQUIPMENT:
No information.

US PW’S:
PW observed one (1) American soldier at HADONG on 20 Aug 50.
Hearsay: PW heard from fellow troops that there are 3,000 American PW’s in SEOUL.

NORTH KOREAN AF & NAVY:
Hearsay: PW heard that the North Korean Army was to use aircraft when liberating PUSAN.

SOUTH KOREAN SENTIMENTS:
The relationship between the North & South Koreans was not favorable because the South Koreans dislike the killing of innocent people and also didn’t approve of the North Korean government system.
