23 0500K Aug 50, while PW’s unit (Mortar Co) headed for a mountain (SE of IMAM village), they were heavily fired upon by unknown ROK artillery and machine guns. After fighting for 1½ hours, they were told to surrender by ROK Troops. Since PW knew that they did not have a chance, he gave himself up with 20 other men.

Mortar Co in battalion - 51 men, no mortars, armed with M1891/30 rifles, 16 rounds.

Casualties: Mortar Co, 3rd Bn - 15 men ant IMAM-Ni 23 Aug 50.

Supplies:
PW received average of 1 meal a day, since departing SINUIJU, 3 Aug 50. Food was looted from farmers whenever they were in need.
Ammunition last received, IMAM-Ni, 23 Aug 50, (Mortar Co, 2 rounds per man, however infantry troops received 71 rounds per man).
Since departing SINUIJU, 3 Aug 50, the 3rd Bn received no supplies.

Enemy Intentions:
PW did not know the objective of 73rd Ind Inf Regt, but heard Co CO say that they had only 28km (S) from IMAM-Ni to go.

Additional Information:
PW states that beside the 3rd Bn, there were 1st and 2nd Bn’s in IMAM-Ni Area.
Hearsay: The 1st and 2nd Bn of 73rd Ind Inf Regt were badly mauled at IMAM-Ni, 23 Aug 50.
Besides the 3 battalions in IMAM-Ni, the 73rd Regt had 3 other battalions (4th, 5th, and 6th Bn’s). Dispositions of these battalions unknown.
No information on guerrilla or other units locations.
