18 0600 K Aug 50, PW’s unit (1st Bn) was heavily shelled by three ROK warships. When the shelling was severe the 1st Bn troops retreated. During the retreat PW hid. The following morning (19 0800 K Aug 50) PW surrendered to the unknown ROK troops. During the attack the 1st Bn was 500 meters N of T’ONGYONG.
Foreign Elements:One Russian officer (Lt Col) was with the 3rd Regt at HAEJU 20 Jul 50. None at present. 3rd Regt officers and NCO’s were former Korean CCF men.
Weapons and Personnel:Regt - 1,800 men, Bn - 600 men, Co - 150 men, Plt - 45 men, Sqd - 11 men. Riflemen armed with M1891/30 rifles, 70 rounds, one grenade for sqd ldrs only. Sqd ldrs: PPsh M1943 submachine guns, 200 rounds. Ass’t sqd ldrs: DP LMG, 250 rounds.
Company: 1 x MAXIM HMG, M1910, 12 x DP LMG, 1 x 45mm AT gun and 1 x 14.5mm PTRD-41 AT rifle. Casualties 1st Bn, 3rd Regt - #300 men at T’ONGYONG 18 Aug 50. No replacement men or equipment (19 Aug 50).
Vehicles:Observed 1 truck (YAG-4) at T’ONGYONG 16 Aug 50.
Supplies:PW received two meals a day. Food carried from HAEJU lasted until they arrived at KOSONG (17 Aug 50). After this date PW looted food from villages. Ammunition last received at HAEJU 28 Jul 50 (70 rounds per men). Source of supplies unknown.
Enemy Intentions:No information.
Additional Information:Hearsay: Beside the 1st Bn, 3rd Co of 3rd Bn was also in T’ONGYONG (19 Aug 50). Location unknown.
Hearsay: The 3rd Regt’s 2nd Bn and the other two companies of the 3rd Bn were somewhere in the vicinity of MASAN (1150-1350) (19 Aug 50). Exact location unknown. No other details.
