PW talked freely, but is of low intelligence.
Military History:4 Jul 50 - Inducted at WONSAN (元山). Received 3 days training.
7 Jul 50 - About 300 recruits departed WONSAN by train and reached TANGYANG (襄陽) same day.
10 Jul 50 - The 300 men left YANGYANG on foot.
O/a 12 Jul 50 - The 300 men and an unknown number of Security and Guards left KANGUNG (江陵).
? Jul 50 - Reached YONGJU (榮州). PW heard from his platoon leader that 8th Div was newly organized from the Security Units. The 300 recruits were issued Russian rifles.
? Jul 50 - The 2nd Regt departed YONGJU. PW did not know when the 1st and 3rd Regt’s of the 8th Div departed YONGJU.
? Aug 50 - The 2nd Regt of the 8th Div reached ANDONG. PW heard from his Bn CO that the 8th Div would capture YONGCH’ON and then attack T’AEGU.
O/a 17 Aug 50 - The 2nd Regt neared UIHUNG (義興). The 2nd Regt separated into companies. PW’s company encountered ROK troops at a hill near UIHUNG. PW and 3 others were wounded and left behind when the company retreated.
22 Aug 50 - PW was captured by the ROK troops.
Personalities:2nd Bn. 2nd Regt, 8th Div CO: LEE, T’AEK HYON (李澤鉉) (리택현) Rank - Maj; About 26 years old.
Foreign Elements:PW heard from his platoon leader that the troops of the 7th and 12th Div’s were formerly trained with the CCF.
Capability of Unit:Morale of the new troops was very low, but morale of the veterans was high.
Armor:PW observed 2 x T-34/78 tanks and 1 destroyed tank S of UISONG (義城) o/a 15 Aug 50.
Artillery:PW observed 12 x 120-mm Mortars at ANDONG (安東) in early Aug 50. Mortar was being towed by a truck.
Supplies:Begged rice from farmers. Ate twice a day.
Received 150 rounds of ammunition at YONGJU in the latter part of Jul 50.
Enemy Intentions:Objective of 8th Div - T’AEGU.
