Military History:
Volunteered 24 Oct 47 for Manchurian Constabulary at YENCHI Country. Trained as combat inf man for one year. After training, PW was assigned to 71st Regt in YENCHI Area with 5,000 other men. Duties as guard in various towns and villages. 23 Jul 49, 71st Regt departed YENCHI by rail, arrived NANAM (羅南) 25 Jul 49 and joined 5,000 men that had just joined the constabulary. The 5th Div was formed in NANAM with the 10,000 men. 27 Jul 49 the 5th Div trained until 23 Jun 50.

18 T-34/85 tanks originally assigned to 5th Div. 2 T-34/85 tanks last observed in KIGYE Area 15 Aug 50.

Artillery:
6 x 76mm M1939 in regiment. Three destroyed by RAAF in KIGYE Area 15 Aug 50. 4 x 122mm M1910/30 Howitzers, 2 destroyed by RAAF south of P’YONGHAE-RI 10 Jul 50. 9 x 45mm AT captured by ROK at KIGYE Area. 3 x destroyed by RAAF in same area.

Capability of Unit:
Morale: Morale was low due to shortage of supplies and air attacks.

Additional Information:
PW stated that the 5th Div consisted of the 11th, 12th and the 13th Regts. Code Nos 617, 618, and 619 units respectively
