Evaluation:
PW was cooperative, but information limited due to his short period of military service. Information seemed fairly reliable.

Military History:
6 Jul 50 - Inducted at SINUIJU (新義州) into 73rd Ind Regt, 3rd Bn, 2nd Co, 1st Sqd. Received 10 days basic training (close order drill and fired 3 rounds with Russian rifle).
3 Aug 50 - The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn’s of the 73rd Regt departed SINUIJU by train. The 4th, 5th and the 6th Bn’s remained in SINUIJU.
O/a 12 Aug 50 - Reached WONJU (原州) via P’YONGYANG.
O/a 13 Aug 50 - The 1st, 2nd and the 3rd Bn’s departed WONJU on foot.
22 Aug 50 - Reached a point 4km N of IMAM-Ni via TANYANG (丹陽) YOUNGJU (榮州) and ANDONG (安東).
23 Aug 50 - The 3rd Bn west round a hill and advanced towards IMAM-Ni. The 2nd Co of the 3rd Bn was ordered to climb a hill located 1 km N of IMAM-Ni. The 2nd Co was pinned down by ROK rife while climbing the hill. The men in the 4th (HMG) Platoon of the 2nd Co surrendered, but many men were killed in the other platoons. Seven men including PW surrendered to ROK Troops.
PW did not known what happened to the rest of the 3rd Bn, or to the 1st and 2nd Bn’s which were located 4 km N of IMAM-Ni.

3rd Bn (73rd Regt) CO - HONG, YONG P’YO (홍영표) Maj; about 35 years old.
2nd Co CO: HAN, YON P’AL (韓用八) (한용팔) Lt; Age 27 yrs.
4th Plt Ldr: KIM, YONG T’AE (金永泰) Jr Lt; about 20 years old.

Weapons and Personnel:
Bn - 3 Rifle Co’s (150 men per Co), HMG Co, and 82mm Mortar Co.
Rifle Co - 150 men. 12 x LMG’s 12 x submachine guns and rest armed with M1891/30 rifles. There were no HMG’s in Rifle Company.
HMG Co - Number of men unknown. 3 x HMG’s.
82mm Mortar Co - Number of men unknown. 3 x 82mm mortars (?)
Casualties - unknown. Ammunition - each rifleman received 20 rounds of ammunition when they left SINUIJU on 3 Aug 50.

Capability of Unit:
Morale: Morales of the troops was very low, because they were recent conscripts. There was not enough food and the troops were tired of long marches.

Vehicles:
PW observed 3 trucks at YONGJU o/a 12 Aug 50. Each truck was hauling a 82mm mortar.

Supplies:
Received 3 rice balls a day. Rice was supplied from their own unit.

Enemy Intentions:
PW heard from his Bn CO 21 Aug 50 that the objective of the 3rd Bn was P’OHNAG-DONG (1230-1460).
