Cooperative, information seems reliable although PW is not certain about dates.

Inducted into Northeast Peoples Liberation Army (CCF), Rear Echelon Hqtrs - 23 Feb 48 at CHILIN (吉林), NE CHINA (MANCHURIA).

Departed CHILIN 19 Dec 48 - rail - arrived T’ANG-SHAN (唐山), CHINA, 27 Dec 48.

Departed T’ANG-SHAN 15 Feb 49 - marched - arrived HSANG-CHI-TIEN (桑技唐), CHINA (situated at mouth of Yellow River (HWANG HO) 10 Apr 50.

Departed HSANG-CHI-TIEN 5 May 50 - rail - arrived HSUI-CHANG (許昌), HONAN Province, CHINA, 6 May 49.

Departed HSUI-CHANG 21 May 49 - marched - arrived P’AN-CHENG (半城), HUPEI Province, CHINA 21 Jun 50.

Departed P’AN-CHENG 8 Oct 49 - truck - arrived NAN-CHIANG (安江), HONAN Province, CHINA, 15 Oct 49.

Departed NAN-CHIANG 10 Dec 49 - marched - arrived LIU-HSE (柳州), KIANGSI Province, CHINA, 25 Dec 49.

Departed LIU-HSE with about 100 other Koreans from his unit 15 Feb 50 by railroad arriving CHUNG-CHOU (鄭州), HONAN Province - 23 Mar 50. Joined about 10,000 Koreans, from CCF units all over CHINA, at CHUNG-CHOU. Koreans organized CHUNG-CHOU into the “Korean Division, Chinese Peoples Liberation Army” (CCF). Departed with “Korean Div” from CHING-CHOU 12 Apr 50 by rail arriving ANTUN, NE CHINA 18 Apr 50. Departed ANTUNG, NE CHINA, 16 Apr 50 by railroad crossing YALU River into SINUIJU, KOREA, 16 Apr 50 arrived WONSAN 18 Apr 50. “Korean Div, Chinese Peoples Lib Army” redesignated 7th Div, NKPA, 25 Apr 50. PW notified of change by 9th Co CO. Trained in Soviet-type close order drill - 2 months.

Departed INJE 24 Jun 50 - marched and attacked ROK 25 Jun 50 - arrived CHECH’ON about 20 Jul 50.

Departed CHECH’ON about 20 Jul 50 - marched - arrived YONGJU about 23 Jul 50.

Departed YONGJU about 23 Jul 50 - marched - arrived ANDONG about 25 Jul 50. 7th Div redesignated 12th Div at ANDONG o/a 25 Jul 50.

Departed ANDONG 1 Aug 50 - marched - arrived P’OHANG-DONG o/a 7 Aug.

Departed P’OHANG-DONG o/a 7 Aug 50 - marched - arrived KIGYE 8 Aug.

Remained in KIGYE vicinity until attacked by ROK units 16 Aug 50. PW deserted 9th Co and hid for 4 days. At 20 1400 K Aug 50, PW surrendered to ROK soldiers who had occupied hill where PW was hiding.

Unidentified officer replaced Maj Gen CHON U (全宇) (전우) about 20 Jul 50 at CHECH’ON.

9th Co, 3rd Bn, 3rd Regt CO: PAK HA GUK (朴河國) (박하국), Jr Lt, age 22.

Observed one Soviet officer at 7th Div Hqtrs when hqtrs was at WONSAN (Jun 50).

Original strength: Div - 10,000 men, Regt - unknown, Bn - 300 men, Co - 156 men, Plt - unknown, Sqd - unknown. Riflemen armed with US rifle Model 1903 (brought with troops from CHINA), 120 rds, 4 grenades. Sqd ldrs - rifles, officers - pistols. 5 PPsh submachine guns per company. One HMG Co in Bn, 30 men, 3 x Jap HMGs. One mortar Co in Bn, 30 men, 3 x US 60 mm mortars. Casualties, 3rd Bn, 3rd Regt about 150 men. 21 replacements for 9th Co at ANDONG (27 Jul 50). 15 PPsh submachine guns received by 3rd Bn. Arrived at ANDONG (27 Jul 50). No resupply of rifle ammunition (16 Aug 50).

Observed 2 x medium tanks at KIGYE (15 Aug 50).

Saw unknown number of truck-drawn artillery pieces at night at KIGYE (15 Aug 50).

Observed about 15 x 2½ ton trucks at KIGYE (15 Aug 50).

Received average 2 rice balls or 2 barley balls a day. Supplemented ration by confiscating food from farmers.

Objective of 7th Div was T’AEGU. No gas training or equipment received.

Observed about 100 guerrillas in KIGYE 15 Aug 50. 5th Div occupied P’OHANG-DONG when PW was there (o/a 7 Aug 50). Saw no Safe Conduct Passes or other leaflets.
