  There were 50 wounded and 40 killed in the 1st Co as of time of PW’s capture, 21 Nov 50.

One Korean interpreter with the rank equivalent to Plat Ldr was placed into the PW’s Company on 20 Oct 50 at KAI-YUAN (開原). PW’s unit was intact and under the same chain of command now as it was prior to crossing the YALU River.
PW did not see any field guns in his unit while he was in CHINA or after crossing the YALU River.

4. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS: (as of 20 Nov 50)
PW’s unit came into KOREA to fight “RHEE’s Army” because his government was making the farmers suffer.
On the night of 20 Nov 50, the PW was separated from his Company when they were retreating northward. On 21 Nov 50 PW was captured by ROK troops.
Whereabouts of the unit was unknown.
Locations of CP’s and Hqs were unknown.
PW’s unit did not construct any defensive positions while traveling South from the YALU River.

5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted into the CNA 71st Army in Feb 44 at SZECHWAN SHENG (四川省). Received 3 months of infantry training at YUNNAN SHENG (雲南省).
While in the 71st Army, PW travelled through these places: MENDEN (phonetic KANSU (廣西) and arrived at CHUNGCHUN (長春); dates of travel in the above areas were unknown.
In Aug 48, the 71st Army left CHUNGCHUN by foot and arrived at CHIN-CHOU (錦州) in Oct 48. The 71st Army fought with the CCF and the PW with 100 others were captured at CHUNGCHUN on Dec 49. PW later heard that 10,000 CNA troops surrendered at this time.
In Dec 49 the CNA PW’s were taken to SUNYANG (瀋陽) by foot from CHUNGCHUN, and reached there in Dec 49. PW was placed into the 38th Army, 2nd Div, 7th Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co as a stretcher bearer.
During the latter part of Dec 49, the 38th Army left SUNYANG on foot and arrived at HONAN (河南) in Feb 50. The troops cultivated land at HONAN. The 38th Army left HONAN in Aug 50 by train and arrived at KAI-YUAN (開原) o/a Aug 50.
In Oct 50, 600 soldiers, including the PW, left HUNAN by train and arrived at KAIWHEN in Oct 50. Here PW’s unit was redesignated as 38th Army, 113th Div, 337th Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co. During the middle of Oct 50, the 38th Army left KAIWHEN by train and arrived at CHI-AN (輯安) on 26 Oct 50.
27 Oct 50, the 38th Army left CHI-AN on foot and arrived at HUICHON (BV 6849) during early part of Nov 50. PW stated that he actually saw approx 3,000 soldiers cross the steel bridge over the YALU River. The points of departure and entry into KOREA were unknown. The places travelled through to HUICHON were also unknown.
1st Bn left HUICHON in Nov 50 on foot and arrived at KUJANG-DONG 18 Nov 50.
PW was captured 21 Nov 50.
PW’s unit did not participate in the HAINAN Island invasion.

6. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
Soldiers brought 4 days ration with them when they crossed the YALU River. After the rations were consumed, they confiscated food from farmers.

7. SIGNAL COMMUNICATION:
Communication between Co to Bn was by messengers; between Bn and Regt was by wireless.

8. MORALE:
The morale in PW’s Co was low because they lacked artillery and air support.

9. GENERAL INFORMATION:
PW was not a volunteer for KOREA service, nor was his unit.
No instructions had been given to CCF troops to appear to be volunteers if captured.
There were no Japanese units in the CCF.
The CCF does not have Militia and Public Security units in addition to its regular troops.
PW received 60,000 Yuan per month.
PW did not know of any CCF units with Soviet equipment.
PW did not know of any paratroop training or paratroopers in the CCF.
Cultural officers usually lectured to soldiers that they were in KOREA to fight the “RHEE Regime” which is causing the farmers to suffer.
While in KOREA soldiers slept in foxholes, but officers slept in farm houses.
