2. ASSESSMENT:

3. CHRONOLOGY:
1918 - Born in LAIOTUNG-SHENG (遼東省), MANCHURIA.
1928 - Attended 3 years of primary school at TUITZU (對子), MANCHURIA.
Jan 47 - Inducted into the Liaotung People’s Corps (遼東民團). Transferred to the CCF, Independence Division (獨立師團) in MANCHURIA.
Feb 47 - The Independence Division (獨立師團) redesignated as 124th Div, 42nd Army, CCF.
5 Feb 47 - Basic training at TUNGHSINP’U (東新浦), LIAOTUNG-SHENG.
Aug 48 - PW’s unit fought against CNA at LIAOSIEH (遼西), MANCHURIA.
Nov 48 - Located at PEIPING (北京), CHINA.
Feb 49 - Departed PEIPING (北京) and engaged CNA at ANYANG (安陽).
Mar 49 - Marched into SSUCHUN (四川), SSUCHUN-SHENG (四川省).
Jan 50 - Returned to PEIAN (北安), MANCHURIA. PW’s unit was engaged in lumbering activities. Shipments of timber were made to the Chinese Communist Government, Forest Minister Bureau (中國政府 林務局) in PEIPING (北京).
Apr 50 - Arrived at TUNGHUA (通化), MANCHURIA. Received rifle (Japanese M38) training for three months.
Sep 50 - Preparations for intervention in the Korean War.
7 Sep 50 (six) 42nd Army, 124th Div crossed the YALU River at CHIAN (輯安) and entered MANP’OJIN.

5. OTHER CCF UNITS IN KOREA:
On 11 Nov 50, PW met many friends who were with the CCF 3rd Field Army. Following the retreat of the 124th Div, the CCF 3rd Field Army arrived at HWANGCH’ORYONG (黃草嶺), KOREA. Two Regts of the 3rd Field Army were heavily attacked by UN air forces.

6. RECRUITING PROGRAM:
In MANCHURIA, the Chinese Communist Government is using their land redistribution program as a means of supplementing the CCF recruiting program. Before receiving additional land, promises to voluntarily send members of their families for service with the CCF were extracted from the farmers.

7. PAY OF PERSONNEL:
Pvt to NonComs - 70,000 yuan
Jr Lt to Capt - 100,000 yuan
Major - 300,000 yuan
Lt Col - 400,000 yuan
Col - 500,000 yuan

8. RATIONS AND CLOTHING:
Clothing distributed to each soldier annually:
Summer Uniforms - 2 suits
Underwear - 1 pair
Winter Uniform - 1 suit
Shoes (Cloth) - 1 pair each month
There was no regulated ration system. The mess hall served three meals a day and each day’s menu was different.
Rice - two days a week
Millet - one day a week
Kaoliang - four days a week
Cigarettes, face soap, tooth brushes and tooth powder were issued occasionally.

9. PROPAGANDA:
The CCF indoctrination was based upon the following slogans:
We have to break down US imperialism in KOREA. USA action in KOREA is illegal.
SYNGMAN RHEE (李承晩) and the YOSHIDA (吉田) Government are trying to help the American expansion in ASIA. RHEE and YOSHIDA are puppets of US and other imperialistic nations in the world.
Our comrade, the North Korean People’s Republic, is now in critical situation because the Republic of KOREA Army invaded the northern territory. We must wipe out the ROK Army as soon as possible. We shall march toward the 38° parallel to recover the territory that KIM, Il Song (金日成) had lost to the UN Forces.
If the UN Forces control all the territory of KOREA, our nation would be in a fearful situation. Therefore, we have to destroy the ROK and UN Forces north of the 38° parallel.
