PW was cooperative and talked freely.
Information seems fairly reliable.
PW was inducted into the CNA at CHUNGCHING (重慶) on 1 Jul 47.
After serving with the CNA at RANGOON, BURMA, CHUNGCHING SHENYANG (瀋陽), PW was captured by an unknown CCF unit at TIENTSIN (天津) Jul 49.
PW was sent to HOPEH Army District Liberated Officer Training Regt (河北軍區 解放軍官 敎導團) where he received 3 months indoctrination on communism.
During Oct 49, PW was assigned to the 66th Army, 196th Div, 586th Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co located at TIENTSIN (天津).
22 Oct 50, the 586th Regt departed TIENTSIN on train and arrived at ANTUNG on 25 Oct 50.
26 Oct 50, the entire 586th Regt departed ANTUNG by train, crossed the YALU River, and detrained. The 586th Regt marched to NAMSI DONG, arriving at NAMSI DONG o/a 16 Nov 50.
586th Regt departed NAMSI DONG on 23 Nov 50 and marched to TOKHWA DONG, arriving at TOKHWA DONG at dawn, 24 Nov 50.
PW was separated from his unit and was captured by ROK troops at TOKHWA DONG 241400 I Nov 50.
66th Army was composed of the 196th, 197th and 198th Divisions, Mt Gun Regt, Signal Bn, Engr Bn, Guard Bn, Transportation Bn, and Medical Unit.
196th Div was composed of the 586th, 587th, and 588th Rifle Regts, Mt Gun Bn, Engr Co, Guard Co, Transportation Co, Signal Co and Medical unit.
Regiments of other Divisions of the 66th Army were as follows:
197th Div - 589th, 590th, and 591st Regiments
198th Div - 592nd, 593rd, and 594th Regiments
586th Regt was composed of 3 Rifle Bns, Guard Co and Special Duty Co (特務連). The Special Duty Co was composed of troops working in the Regt’l Hq and a Recon Unit. Hearsay: An Arty Co will be assigned to the 586th Regt in the near future.
Rifle Bn was composed of 3 Rifle Companies and 1 Hvy Weapons Company.

As of 23 Nov 50, the 586th Regt was up to the above-mentioned strength.
One Korean interpreter was observed with each company.
On 23 Nov 50, PW was told by the I & E officer, 1st Bn, 586th Regt that the 196th Div was to move to TOKHWA DONG (德花洞) to attack UN Forces located 4 Km from TOKHWA DONG. The I & E officer further stated that if UN Forces cannot be encountered at TOKHWA DONG, the 196th Div was to advance until they met UN Forces and engaged them.
During the night of 23 Nov 50, the 586th Regt marched from NAMSI DONG (XE 3315) to TOKHWA DONG, arriving at TOKHWA DONG at dawn on 24 Nov 50. The troops of the 586th Regt dug foxholes near TOKWHWA DONG until 241200 I Nov 50.
The 586th Regt departed TOKHWA DONG for an unknown place during the hours of 1200 to 1400, 24 Nov 50.
PW heard the following information from the I & E officer, 1st Bn, 586th Regt, 196th Div:
The Chinese People’s Volunteer Army (中國人民志願軍) in KOREA was composed of the 4th Field Army (四野戰軍), 20th Army Group (二十兵團), and the 19th Army Group (十九兵團).
The 4th Field Army was composed of 3 Army Groups, with three Armies to each army group.
The 20th Army Group was composed of the 66th, 67th, and 68th Armies.
PW believes that the 19th Army Group was composed of the 63rd, 64th and 65th Armies.
The 4th Field Army was a combat unit (ready to fight anywhere, anytime) but the 19th and 20th Army Groups were garrison armies.

Staple food was obtained from Korean village officials. Other food (mostly vegetables) was obtained directly from farmers. Food was generally insufficient.
Ammo was being supplied through regular channels.

O/a 5 Nov 50, PW observed 7 NKA tanks near NAMSI DONG.
During Jul 50, PW observed 3 CCF tanks at TIENTSIN (天津).
Hearsay: Two (2) US air force personnel, including one major, were at 196th Div Hq o/a 20 Nov 50 at NAMSI DONG.
Line telephone communications were utilized in battalions and higher echelon.
Messengers were used widely by all units.
Morale of the troops of the 586th Regt was low because of fatigue from marching, UN air strikes, homesickness and hunger.
PW did not volunteer for duty in KOREA but all CCF troops in KOREA were under the command of Chinese People’s Volunteer Army.
No instructions had been given to CCF soldiers to appear to be volunteers if captured.
PW’s unit did not undergo any amphibious training.
PW did not know of the Iron and Steel Brigade.
PW heard of Japanese being in the 4th Field Army but did not have any information on Japanese Units with the CCF.
A Civilian Military Unit (民兵隊) was located in each village and town for security of the area. These units were integrated into Chinese Communist Army units whenever needed.
Men 15 to 25 yrs old were being conscripted into the CCF. Each village had a quota.
PW, a Company I & E officer, received 14,000 Yuan or 3 kg of rice per month.
PW did not know of any CCF units with Soviet equipment.
PW did not know of any paratroop training or paratroopers in the CCF.
All Nationalist soldiers and equipment captured by the CCF were used by the CCF.
Troops were told that they must help North KOREA against the invading American capitalists because the North Korean Government is true democracy like the Chinese Communists and it is the duty of all true democracies to aid each other.
PW never received any gas training or heard of any gas training in CHINA.
