FIELD REPORT (164 MISDI - 1334) 14 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: CHONG, Un Su (鄭殷洪) (정은수) (NKA)

OCCUPATION: Farmer
ADDRESS: KANGWON DO, YANGKU GUN, TONG MYON, WONTANG NI, #444 (江原道 陽口郡 東面 元唐里 444)
DATE AND PLACE OF CAPTURE: 091200 I Jan 51 at approx 48 Km South of WONJU (DS 0633) along the Railroad track.

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and talked freely.
Information seems reliable but is limited due to his short period of military service.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTHS:
The 10th Division composed of 25th, 27th and 29th Inf Regts.
27th Regt composed of 3 Rifle Battalions.
2nd Battalion composed of 6 Rifle Companies (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th), 82 mm Mortar Company, HMG Company Signal Platoon and Supply Platoon.
The 1st Company composed of Rifle Plats, Signal Sqd and Supply sqd.
The 1st Plat composed of 3 Rifle Sqds.
PW’s Sqd consisted of 8 men.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:
27th Regiment (PW’s unit) was last seen in the vicinity of WONJU 8 Jan 51, however, PW did not know the exact location.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
PW conscripted 28 Dec 50 into the NKA at YANGGU (DT 1117).
No training received.
PW and 120 other conscripts were assigned to the 1st Sqd, 1st Plat, 1st Co, 2nd Bn, 27th Regt, 10th Div at HWACHON (CT 8617) 4 Dec 50.
PW travelled with the 27th Regiment from HWACHON and arrived in the vicinity south of WONJU (DS 0633) 7 Jan 51.
After being separated from the 2nd Battalion of the 27th Regiment at the above place, PW with another soldier marched south.
8 Jan 51, after travelling approx 36 Km South from the vicinity of WONJU, PW observed an element of the 25th Regiment of the 10th Division, which was supposed to be in front of the 27th and the 29th Regiment of the 10th Division. (Reason why the 25th Regiment was overtaken by the 27th and 29th Regiments was unknown.)
PW stated that he heard from a soldier of the 25th Regiment that the 1st Battalion of the 29th Regiment had just left the place (approx 36 Km South of WONJU) one hour before he arrived there.
While marching south along the Railroad track (approx 48 Km South of WONJU), PW was shot in his leg by ROK troops and captured 9 Jan 51.

6. SIGNAL INFORMATION:
Field telephones were used for communication above the company level.

7. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
Food was obtained from villages as they advanced south.
PW received one issue of 50 rds when the 10th Division departed HWACHON 4 Jan 50.

8. MORALE:
Morale of the 10th Division was high while advancing south without enemy resistance.

9. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
