PW departed from SUWON o/a 1 Jan 51, marched in a generally southward direction (traveling at night only) until o/a 3 Jan 51 when he dropped behind his division because his feet hurt so much that the could no longer walk. Thus PW lost contact with his division. He existed by the side of a road and ate rice from his ration bag. Korean refugees walking southward past him gave him matches with which to build a fire. On 15 Jan 51, PW surrendered to advancing troops of the US 27th RCT.
