PW was in good physical condition. Cooperative and below average intelligence. Evaluation of information obtained should be evaluated accordingly. Engaged in farming prior to entering service.
PW was inducted into CNA 24 Jan 49. Captured and conscripted into CCF HOPEI Province, ANYANG-SHIEN 10 April 50. No knowledge of date, time and location of crossing into North KOREA. No knowledge of date, time and location of crossing into North KOREA. No knowledge of route taken after entering North KOREA. Crossed 38th Parallel o/a 1 Jan 51. Approx 7 days ago 3rd Bn was dispatched from u/k location to procure 400 tons of general food supplies in exchange for ration coupons for entire 126th Div. Arrived vic 4 km of YANGPYONG CS6749. 3rd Bn CP was located there. 9th Co CP located approx 400 meters S of Bn CP. Approx 500 CCF troops in immediate areas of Bn CP, armed with one US Bazooka, 3 mortars, 6 HMGs and rifles. Regt CP located approx 48 km NW of YANGPYONG. Approx seven days ago heard from 3rd Bn CO that elements of 38th CCF Army was located 16-20 km W of Bn CP. Three days ago heard from Bn CO that 125th Div located 4 km generally E of Bn CP, and that the entire 42nd Army will bivouac at present location for two months. Locations of 42nd Army and 126th Div Hqs u/k. 201900 Jan 6 men (including 1 NK interpreter) were dispatched to CHONYANG to procure food from surrounding villages. Arrived CHONYANG 21 Jan. Enroute PW observed 30 CCF troops (unit u/k) marching in opposite direction. Saw 4 NK trps at county office 211200 Jan. After arriving rested at vacant house. Upon awakening discovered that 4 others had departed earlier. Whereabout of 4 others u/k. Captured by elements of 5th RCT at 211420 Jan 51.
42nd Army composed of 124th, 125th, and 126th Divs with two independent Arty Bns attached. Strength of 42nd Army approx 30,000. No knowledge of strength and weapons in Arty Bns. Strength of 126th Div approx 10,000. The 126th Div composed of 376th, 377th, and 378th Regts. Approx 2,000 men in 377th Regt. Three Bns in each Regt. Strength of each Bn 400-500 men. 3 Rifle Cos and one Hvy Wpns Co in each Bn. 100-110 men in each Rifle Co. 140-150 men in Hvy Wpns Co. Composition of 124th and 125th Divs u/k.
Each Rifle Co has 5-6 LMGs. Trps armed with US M-1, Jap rifle, and carbines. 2-3 hand grenade per person. Hvy Wpns Co has 6 HMGs, 3 mortars (82mm).
No knowledge of 42nd Army reenforcing the 38th Army nor of 42nd Army relieving the 38th Army. No knowledge of 42nd Army being relieved by other units. Each army is assigned to cover 13 miles sector.
