PW was intelligent and fairly cooperative but had little information. Reliability - Fair.
a. Chronology:
3 Aug 50 - Inducted into the NK Volunteer Army in SEOUL.
3 Aug 50 - 9 Aug 50 - Marched to IWON-GUN (利原郡) with 3,000 South Koreans who were inducted into NKA.
20 Aug 50 - 29 Aug 50 - Walked for five days to CHINWON temple (眞願寺) and received basic training for 4 days with 500 men.
30 Aug 50 - Returned to IWON-GUN (利原郡) in KOREA.
3 Sep 50 - Moved to CHORWON (鐵原) in KOREA and received one day of basic training.
8 Sep 50 - 5 Nov 50 - Moved from place to place because of UN Force’s advance.
5 Nov 50 - Reorganized at IWON (利原) into 3rd Div, 7th Regt, 3rd Bn, 7th Co, 1st Plat, 1st Sqd.
8 Nov 50 - 18 Dec 50 - Marched to HUNGNAM (興南) where the fighting was going on. PW participated in the fighting for only one day.
19 Dec 50 - Finding out that most of the men were either killed or wounded, PW surrendered to the UN Forces at HUNGNAM (興南).
b. Weapons:
1st Plat, 7th Co, 3rd Bn, 7th Regt, 3rd Div had 33 men.
28 men carried M1891/30 Rifles and were issued 30 rounds each.
3 men carried 3 DP LMGs.
1 man carried a PPSH M1941 SMG.
1 man (Plat Ldr) carried a pistol; type unknown.
8 hand grenades were issued to each Plat. Two types of hand grenades:
F-1 Defensive Hand Grenades
RG-42 Offensive Hand Grenades
No other weapons observed.
