2. ASSESSMENT:
PW although a company commander, seems to be withholding information. He was not cooperative and pretended to be illiterate and not well versed in military matters. He is however, recommended for further interrogation on grounds that given a cooling off period, he might volunteer to give information of tactical or strategic value.

3. TO/E, DISPOSITION:
a. 2nd Bn was composed of three rifle companies, one heavy weapons company, medical section, signal section, and a supply section, totaling 500 men. In each company (totaling 120 to 130 men) there were four rifle platoons and a 60mm mortar platoon.
23 Nov 50, the division split by regiments, the dispositions of regiments were unknown. PW’s regiment marched southeast via mountain trails and arrived at a mountain called 990 or UNTAE-SAN and approximately 800 meters west of CHONGCHON River, here they erected the Regt CP and the unit spent a night there and on the following day, 25 Nov 50, the 2nd Bn was ordered by the regimental commander to cross the CHONGCHON River. They were told that along the CHONGCHON River near KUJANG-DONG there were enemy troops and the number of troops there did not amount to much. The 359th Regt was split up by Bns and PW’s Bn departed first followed (by the 1st and 3rd Bns) approximately 1.5 Km to the rear. PW stated the objective of all the units was to cross the CHONGCHON River and he believes the units have by now crossed the river, however, he did not know where the crossing was made.
25 Nov 50 at 2100 hours, the 2nd Bn crossed the CHONGCHON River by companies. Just as the companies (4th, 5th, 6th, and Heavy Weapons Cos) arrived on the east bank of the river they were shelled by enemy all night and on the following morning about 1000 hours PW ordered his troops to stop firing and to surrender because he knew that they did not stand a chance with the enemy. PW and 19 men of his Company surrendered with their weapons to the 23rd RCT.
b. Although PW did not know the exact present locations of the 118th and 119th Division of the 40th Army, he stated that the usual procedure followed by the 40th Army was to have the 119th Division to the fore, 118th Division in the center and 120th Division bring up the rear.
The mission of the 2nd Bn was to cross the CHONGCHON River and engage the enemy located east of the river.
c. In each company were: thirty-two Japanese model 38 rifles (100 rounds per rifle), nine LMGs (1,000 rounds each), two HMGs, three 60mm mortars (30 shells each), four pistols (40-50 rounds each) and grenades (250).
