3. TO/E, DISPOSITION
A. Own Unit
(1) PW inducted Jun 44 at SUCHUANG (四川), S CHINA into the CNA 94th Army, Cavalry Co. In Nov 48, PW was captured by CCF at TENJIN (天津), N CHINA and was conscripted into the 38th Army, 114th Div, Med Bn, 2nd Co.
Prior to coming into KOREA the unit was stationed at KAIYUEN (開原), MANCHURIA. On 22 Oct 50, the 114th Div departed KAIYUEN by train and crossed the Korean border via SUPIN (四平) 31 Oct. After crossing they rode the train for approximately four hours before stopping at a fairly large station. Here the unit unloaded and marched south via the main road for approximately nine days, when the Div was separated into regts. PW was told that they were going to attack TOKCH'ON (disposition of units unknown).
PW's Regt marched cast via the main road for approximately two days before taking to mountain trails to the southwest. They marched for four days before they came to a mountain (8 km N of WAWON) on 14 Nov. Here the unit erected Regt CP and Bn CPs. The Regt CP was located approximately 8 km NW of WAWON on a hill. 1st Bn CP was located 13 km WNW, 3rd Bn CP 12 km NW and the 2nd Bn CP 12 km NNW of WAWON village. This hill was called hill 908.
16 Nov the unit was attacked by enemy aircraft and artillery. Due to this, the unit scattered and the troops retreated north via mountain trails over which they had previously come. However, the PW did not know where they were to assemble because he and another became separated from the unit. PW remained in the mountains for two days before coming down for some food. On the way down they were captured by ROK troops.
(2) 9th Regt was composed of three infantry bns, two Arty Btrys, Sig Plat, Med Plat, Supply Plat and Security Plat, totaling 2,200 men. Each Bn was composed of three Inf Co's, HW Co, Sig Plat and one Med Plat, totaling 600 men. Each Co was composed of three Inf Plats and Heavy Weapons Plat, totaling 120 to 130 men.
In an Infantry Co, the troops were armed with 9 Canadian LMG's (600 rds), 18 US Carbines (90 rds), 18 Jap type M38 Rifles (80 rds), 3 x 60mm US Mortars (40 shells), five pistols and hand grenades.
(3) The food supply was received from rear units by trucks, however, the location of these rear units was unknown. Unit last received three truckloads of supplies at hill 908 on 14 Nov. The food consisted of corn and sorghum, PW was allotted two meals per day since coming into KOREA, which was considered sufficient by the PW.
(4) Each man received one cotton padded suit, one pair of shoes, socks and cap before leaving for combat.
(5) The mission of the 9th Regt was to capture TOK'CHON.
(6) 9th Regt lost approximately 100 men of the original 2,200 men from the attacks on 16 Nov on hill 908.

4. MISCELLANEOUS
A. The unit marched only at night, during travel no lights were used, however, they hired Korean farmers or village people as guides.
B. Morale of the 9th Regt troops was low because they did not have the will to fight. Since their country was still in need of reconstruction and because of the shortage of food, PW thinks it is not necessary for them to fight a war for others when they need help in their own country.
C. PW heard that four armies came into KOREA around the latter part of Oct, namely the 38th, 39th, 42nd and one other (unk). Two armies entered KOREA from ANTUNG and the two others from CHIAN (the 38th and 42nd Armies).
