3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:Chronology:
2 Aug 50: Conscripted in SEOUL, assigned as dentist without rank.
3 Aug 50: Arrived SUWON, Agriculture College, Hqs of 11th General Hospital (Code No 951). The 11th Gen Hospital served five (5) Field hospitals located as follows:
1st Field Hospital HYOPCHON (陜川)
2nd Field Hospital KOCH'ANG (居昌)
3rd Field Hospital YONGDONG (永同)
4th Field Hospital CH'UP'UNGNYUNG (秋風嶺)
5th Field Hospital KUMCHON (金泉)
All wounded were first sent to the nearest field hospital for first aid and then to the 11th Mil Gen Hospital in SUWON for examination. After that the seriously wounded such as those with compound fractures, punctured lungs and those who need amputations were sent to SEOUL and then to P'YONGYNAG for processing and final examination and then sent to RUSSIA for expert treatment. Final examination on above-mentioned cases was made by highly qualified medical personnel from RUMANIA, HUNGARY and RUSSIA. There were seven Hungarian physicians, two Rumanian physicians and several Russian physicians. All of them were specialists. There were also many highly skilled nurses from these countries.
3 Aug 50: States that the presence of these foreign physicians in KOREA was made known to North Korean people by newspapers and pamphlets in Aug 50. Medicine used by the NKPA is 10% Russian made and 90% American.
6 Aug 50: PW was assigned to #3 Field Hospital in YONGDONG. Arrived YONGDONG 30 Aug 50. Duties as dentist. Treated on the average of 5 men daily. First aid treatment average 40 men per day. Other duties in station hospital was dietitian (saw that every man consumed about 3,000 to 4,000 calories in daily diet). Number of patients in station hospital approximately 1,000 men - minor wounds. Hospital staff 130 officers, nurses and corpsmen.
25 Sep 50: Before the UN forces captured YONGDONG 700 patients were evacuated but 300 could not be evacuated because of lack of transportation. The hospital staff evacuated except the Hospital CO Lt Col CHU Min Sun and 2 nurses who remained with the patients. Retreated to TAEJON but was cut off by American troops. Went to POUN (報恩) NE of TAEJON (大田). Heard that the ROK 1st Div was in POUN (報恩) and surrendered to them.
