2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was in the CCF for four years, however, he does not appear to be a communist. PW surrendered. Sincere and cooperative. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
25 Jun 46: Inducted into Railway Security Forces, MANCHURIA at TUMEN (圖門). Received military and communist training.
11 Jul 46: Assigned as a Medical Pvt to 6th Co, 4th Regt, Railway Security Forces.
29 Aug 46: Communist troops organized Railway Engineer Corps at MEIHAIKOU (梅海口) 80 km S of CH'ANGCH'UN (長春). PW's unit (Railway Security) was transferred to this newly organized Railway Engineer Corps. PW was assigned as a Pvt to 2nd Bn, Bridging Regt, 4th Div, Railway Engineer Corps.
9 Jul 49: Promoted from Pvt to Sgt.
25 Oct 49: Promoted to M/Sgt. PW's unit repaired railways in various places in MANCHURIA.
25 Jun 50: PW and all Koreans out of the Railway Engineer Corps (approx 1,200 men) departed for P'YOUNGYANG (平壤) via ANTUNG (MANCHURIA) and SINUIJU.
29 Jun 50: On arrival P'YOUNGYANG, all of PW's group joined the NKPA and organized the "584" unit. Promoted to Jr Lt.
11 Jul 50: PW's unit (584) arrived SEOUL and received approx 2,000 replacoments. The 584 Unit was divided into five (5) Bns. PW was assigned as 1st Bn Medical officer.
30 Jul 50: 1st Bn and 4th Bn were dispatched to the SEOUL-PUSAN line, 3rd Bn to the HONAM line (湖南線), 2nd Bn to the SEOUL-ANDONG line and 5th Bn and Unit Hqs remained in SEOUL.
7 Aug 50: 1st Bn repaired a rail bridge 2 km N CHOCH'IWON (鳥致院).
11 Aug 50: Repaired KUMGANG bridge 8 km N TAEJON.
15 Aug 50: Repaired HWANGGANG bridge (located between YONGDONG to KUMCH'ON).
25 Aug 50: 1st Bn rested at KUMI (亀尾) for 5 days.
5-9 Sep 50: Repaired SANGJU bridge (尙州).
10-13 Sep 50: Repaired PAEKWON bridge (白元), 8 km N SANGJU.
13-15 Sep 50: Repaired HAMCH'ANG bridge (咸昌) about 25 km N SANGJU.
16 Sep 50: PW's Bn (1st) left HAMCH'ANG and arrived OCCH'ON (沃川) 21 Sep 50.
28 Sep 50: 1st Bn of "584" Unit was transferred to 105th Div at OKCH'ON.
29 Sep 50: CG of 105th Div issued order to withdraw toward SEOUL. PW surrendered to POK troops at outskirts of MUNUI (文義) 16 km S CH'UNGJU.

Dispositions:
PW saw the following at SECH'ON tunnel 6 km W OKCH'ON (沃川) 29 Sep 50: ration - approx 16 boxcars, ammo - approx 5 boxcars, gasoline - approx 5 boxcars, electric equipment - 10 boxcars, Sake (wine) - approx 6 boxcars.

Personalities: (584 Unit)
Name: KIM (fnu) (金); rank: Col (大佐); age: 32; position: Unit Commander; remarks: Army service - 8 yerars; graduate fo Japanese college. He was Lt Col in CCF.
Name: SIN Won Sik (申元植); rank: Maj (小佐); age: 37; position: 1st Bn Commander; remarks: Education - primary school 6 yrs. He was a Capt in the CCF.

Morale & Propaganda:
Most of the 584 Unit wanted to return to their homes, except approx 200 Communists. Until PW surrendered, he could not believe that he would be treated well by UN troops.

4. GENERAL:
When PW was in MANCHURIA Railway Engineer Corps, he saw approx 30 Russian Engineers who were advisors to the Corps.
