3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:A. Chronology:
PW was forcedly inducted in the N Korean Army on 8 August 1950, and was assigned to the 70th Infantry Regiment stationed at SHINGI-SHU NORTH KOREA. After receiving 3 days of primary military training at SHINGI-SHU the entire regiment was moved to S. KOREA. They departed SHINGI-SHU on 16 August and arrived at SUWON on 17 Sep 1950. Captured by a South Korean Security organization member near the village and was turned over to the Heavy Tank Co.
B. Organization and Strength:
According to source the 3rd Co. had approximately 150 EM and 6 officers. Source stated that the 70th Infantry Regiment consist of 3 Bns, and each Bn has 4 companies. At the time source left the unit the regiment was still stationed near the village. He believes that many other soldiers of this regiment escaped on 18 or 19 Sep.
C. Source stated that the 3rd Co. had 2 heavy machine guns and 3 light machine guns. He heard from other soldiers that the machine guns were all German make. He stated that other companies had same number and type of weapons except for companies with one or two 82mm mortars. There were rumors that same tanks were to be attached to the regiment but never arrived. He heard from other soldiers that this regiment did not have sufficient ammunition, however, 100 rds of ammunition were issued to each rifleman.
4. GENERAL:PW could not give the exact location of the regiment but he estimated as 10 to 12 miles NW of SUWON.
The 3rd Bn is known by the same “Dokuritsu Bn."
