2. ASSESSMENT
PW appeared to be intelligent. He was cooperative. PW considered fairly reliable by interrogator.

Jan-Jul 45: (See occupation)
15 Aug 45: Termination World War II. PW left NANKING, CHINA on reparation train for KOREA via MANCHURIA.
10 Sep 45: Arrive MUKDEN(奉天). MANCHURIA. Lack of identification prevented repatriation.
15 Sep 45: PW forced into Korean Volunteer Army, MUKIEN Unit (Strength - 1,000), MUKDEN.
Oct 45: MUKDEN Unit transferred to SINUIJU (新義州).
Nov 45: MUKDEN Unit left SINUIJU. Returned to MUKDEN.
Jan 46: MUKDEN Unit evacuated MUKDEN after battle with Chinse Nationalist forces. Withdrew to FU-SUNG (橅松).
Jan 47: MUKDEN Unit returned to MUKDEN after recapture of city by CCF.
Dec 47: PW promoted to Asst Sqd Ldr (no rank).
Oct 48: PW promoted to Asst Plat Ldr (no rank).
Jul 49: MUKDEN Unit attached to 166th Div (organized Jan 49).
6 Jul 49: 166th Div (strength - 12,000 Koreans) left MUKDEN.

Jan 50: PW promoted to H/Sgt (Asst Plat Ldr).
Mar 50: 6th Div left SINUIJI.
Apr-Jun 50: 6th Div arrived CHAERYONG(載寧). Trained two (2) months.
O/a 26 Jun: 6th Div left CHAERYONG.
5 Jul 50: 6th Div arrived SEOUL. Continued south.
20 Oct 50: PW hospitalized Div Field hospital, CHONJU(全州) for non-combat back injuries.
O/a 15 Sep: Div field hospital dissolved. PW fled in direction of SANGJU to surrender.
20 1400 K Sep 50: PW surrounded 3 km Southeast of SANGJU to ROK Army units.

Strategic Targets:
Following war plants located in industrial area 3 km Southeast of MUKDEN (Jul 49):
1. Truck factory: 1,000 workers produced sight (8) 2½ ton trucks every 24 hours. Day and night shifts.
2. Ammunition plant (Underground): Small arm, arty. Production rate - unknown.
3. Power plant (Underground): All types explosives. Production rate unknown.
4. Steal mill: Largest plant in MUKDEN Area. 150 meters. High smoke stack prominent land-mark in city. Easy air recognition. 3,000 workers on day and night shifts. Production rate unknown.
Following war plants located in HARBIN(哈爾濱) (Hearsay Jul 49):
1. Tank factory: Details unknown
2. Ammunition plant: Small arms
3. Power plant (thermos-electric): Details unknown
4. Locomotive plant: Details unknown
5. Truck factory: Details unknown

Strategic Targets:
Tire factory (20 May-20 Jun 48): Formerly Toyo Tire Plant (東洋다이아工場) under Japanese Kwantung Army. Presently operated by CCF. Located 3 km Southwest of MUKDEN main railway station. Linked with single-track-spur-line. Plant area, 900 x 500 meters, enclosed by electrified wire fence.
Guarded by CCF Guard Co. Main plant building 500 x 300 meters, two-story brick with serrated tile roofs. Ten (10) small miscellaneous single-story brick structures, including plant office, workers’ quarters. Mess hall plant guard barracks, warehouses located around main plant building. All buildings camouflaged with paint against air detection.
2,000 workers (50% male, average age - 30, 50% female, average age - 27) worked two eight (8) hour shifts producing 1,000 tires (mostly truck) every 24 hours. Tire was sent, via rail, to truck factory HARBIN (Hearsay from plant employee). Raw material obtained from left-over former Japanese Kwantung Army stockpile, HARBIN.
Locomotive Plant (Aug 48): Located on 800 x 400 meters site 5 km southwest of MUKDEN Railway station. Plant composed of two (2) main single-story brick assembly shops (Capacity - six (6) locomotives each), with corrugated sheet iron peaked roofs and several small single story brick structures housing Iron-foundry, forgo, machine shops. Single track spur-line extended to plant site from MUKDEN Railway station.
700 workers (Male, average age - 27) worked in two eight (8) hour shifts producing three (3) steam locomotives (Model unknown) each week. Locomotives sent to CHINA (Hearsay from plant employee). Plant under CCF management. Plant facilities unknown. PW attached guard platoon at plant.
