When he heard that 1st Regt, 1st Bn defeated by UN forces, PW made up his mind to desert with another PW. They hid in a ditch until 1400 hr and when US soldiers came to the vicinity surrendered.
Very cooperative and tried to give as much information as he could, but due to the fact he worked with the medics he lacked detailed information. Not recommended for further interrogation.
a. Unit Strength:
8th Div 10,000 when they left ■■■SAN Dec 50. Present strength of the Div is unknown. Going to medical classes at Div until 27 Jan 51. Does not know original strength of 1st Regt but present strength 1,000 men.
b. On 7 Feb 51 the NK 1st Army Hq was located near ■■■■■■ in SEOUL City. Subject believes 2d and 3d Regt still in SEOUL City.
c. Deserted
d. 1st Regt mission to leave SEOUL 12 Feb 51 and cut the supply route between INCHON, SUWON and PYONGTAEK in one weeks time. They were told that at present US 25th Div is surrounded by 3 CCF Armies at SUWON.
e. Heard from political officer that 17th Div left SEOUL and moved S on 11 Feb 51.
f. Observed four 105mm guns with I Corps in SEOUL six days ago.
g. Special EEI: HAN River Crossing
(1) Crossed HAN River 12 Feb 51 at TUKSUM (CS280556).
(2) Did not use any bridging equipment as river was frozen.
h. UN PW:
Observed five British soldiers (PW) marching N towards KESUNG 40 days ago. PW were with CCF troops.
