FIELD REPORT (521 - MISDI - No Number) 25 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
NAME: CH’OE, Hun Yong
RANK: Pvt

UNIT: HYONG SOK Guerrilla Unit (508th Regt), 9th District (Co) 2nd Plat, 3rd Sqd.
PLACE OF CAPTURE: OKSU DONG (DR 3378)

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and talked freely; information limited due to short period of service and travel through unfamiliar terrain. Reliability: good.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
16 Dec 50: Captured by KYONG SOK Guerrilla Unit near the 38th paralled while travelling south as a refugee. Subject’s home is in vic of HONGWON, NORTH KOREA. (on east coast north of HUNGNAM). Moved south with unit, receiving daily indoctrination lectures. There were approx 20 others in unit sho had been forcibly recruited, including 10 former ROK soldiers.
5 Jan 51: PW and 2 others assigned to 508th Regt. The other newly indoctrinated troops were assigned to other units.
22 Jan 51: The various guerrilla units were to meet at P■■CHAE(a hill) approx 4 km south of TANYANG (DR 3988) by midnight this date, but subject fell behind because of frostbitten feet.
24 Jan 51: Captured at OKSU DONG.

4. ORGANIZATION:
There were 9 guerrilla regt numbered 501 to 509 and a special brig called the SOJIDAE Unit.
508th Regt was called the HYONG SOK Unit after its leader, KO, Hyong Sok.

5. PERSONNEL: 508th Unit:
3 sqd: 8-10 each
2 plat: 30-40 each
2 co: 60-80 each
Hq & Misc: 30-40

6. WEAPONS: 508th Unit:
1 HMG, 4 LMG (Czechoslovakian type) with 650 rd each, 1 x 81mm mortar with 25 rd, M-1, carbines, and Jap types 38, 30 and 99 rifles.
Weapons and ammo are captured equipment and are plentiful.

7. ORGANIZATION:
Leaders of the guerrilla units are all former members of the former ROK 14th Regt which mutinied Oct 28 at YOJU, SOUTH KOREA.
Communication between units was by runners only.
The nine regt seem to operate with close liaison. Regt were placed in reserve during attacks, and captured equipment and supplies were equally distributed.
