444th Regt: 1st (Code Name: 1ST SQUAD), 2nd (Code Name: 2ND SQUAD) and 3rd (Code Name: 3RD SQUAD) Bn, Sig Co, Mort Co, and Med Unit.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:
PW company arrived on unk hill 30 Jan 51 and went into defensive positions.
31 Jan 51 they were strafed and shelled by UN forces which resulted in the disorganizing of the company.
PW and 3 others surrendered voluntarily on the same day.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted Feb 42 into CNA 60th Army at YUNNAN SHENG (雲南省).
Captured Dec 48 by CCF at CHUTAI (瓦台).
148th Division departed for HONAN SHENG (河南省) May 49.
148th Division departed for SSUCHUAN SHENG (四川省) Aug 49.
148th Div departed for HUPEI SHENG (湖北省) Feb 50.
148th Division remained HUPEI SHENG until Sep 50, engaging in farming.
148th Div departed for CHILIN SHENG (吉林省) Sep 50.
148th Division departed Oct 50 and arrived at Manchurian border of the YALU River.
1st Bn arrived in SUWON (CS2528) area 30 Jan 51.

Morale was low due to long night marches, insufficient food, and frequently aerial attacks.

Yes. PW was a former CNA soldier and had contemplated desertion for a long time. The opportune moment came when his company was disorganized by arty shelling.
