PW was captured while enroute to his home in SEOUL. PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation. Was employed as an English typist by KMAG at SEOUL from 1948 to the outbreak of war. Was intelligent and information obtained considered fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.
a. Chronology:
PW was inducted 30 Sep 50 at HWANGHAE-DO, PYOKSONG-GUN, and assigned to 97th (Independent) Regt (Code no 587) which was located at above location. Latter part of Nov PW was transferred to the 12th Div at WAEWON (phonetic) vic of MANP’OJIN. PW claims 7th Div was redesignated 12th Div at above location. 12th Div advanced south via MAENGSAN, YONGDOK, KOKSAN (27 Nov), POKKYE-RI, KUMHWA, NAEPYONG-NI DS0398 (21 Dec). Then to HONGCHON. On 26 Dec PW became ill approx 5 - 6 miles north of HONGCHON and was left behind by unit. Was told division was to advance to HONGCHON to engage UN Forces south of HONGCHON. During advance of 12th Div from YALU River HONGCHON they were not flanked nor supported by other units. No other NK units or CCF observed. 4th Jan PW was captured by 35th ROK Regt and confined until 6 Jan.

At KOKSAN PW heard that the original plan of 12th Div was to advance to KANGNUNG vic 38th parallel. PW heard plan was changed to HONGCHON.
Tactics: PW stated that the 12th NK Div is known as the guerrilla division and that their main purpose was to sever UN supply lines.
