PW was unintelligent and required a lot of explanation from the interpreter to ascertain the facts. Information is considered fairly reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.
Chronology:
PW was captured by the 8th Route Army Feb 48 while serving the CNA as a cook. PW was integrated into the SHINSUJUN Inf Co and undertook his first basic training. During basic training the unit was re-designated as 39th Army, 117th Div, 351st Regt, 1st Bn, 4th Co, Code No. 55th Unit, 3rd Bn, 1st Area Unit, (五五部 三大 一區隊 十四分隊). Two months training was given at WHANSAN WHUTOONG (■山胡屯), MANCHURIA.
PW undertook intensive training at RYO RYAN, MANCHURIA after arriving from KWANET during June up until the time of departure to KOREA. Training was then simulated firing of mortars and the handling of ammo.
PW crossed the YALU River with the 38th Army from ANTUNG into KOREA but could not recall the date.
PW participated in the UNSAN battle for 5 days and after withdrawing, they rested until the march southward began.
PW was captured on 28 Dec 50 by the ROKA
PW’s Duty:
PW was a horse tender in the Mortar Co of the Bn. He helped load and transport the 120 mm Mortar. The company had two HMG squads and two 120 mm mortar sqds with two mortars per squad. One squad had 12 horses to transport the mortar and ammo. PW fed the horses millet, corn and hay which replenish at Bn when the supply on hand was exhausted. During battle he tended the horse approx 2 km from the front. The personnel of the Mortar Sqd packed the weapons and ammo on their backs to the front. During the day the horses were tied to trees by fours.

Route of PW’s Unit:
The route taken by the PW’s unit was over a mountain trail from which the main highway could be seen at all times. After passing PYONGYANG the unit followed the RR line down to the point where he was captured.
