3. CHRONOLOGY:
1934: At the age of five, PW moved with his family to HSINGCHING (興京) MANCHURIA.
Sep 34 to Mar 36: Studied calligraphy at private school in NANIZOHO (南子洞)
Apr 36 to Nov 40: Enrolled at grammar school in CHINGYUAN (淸原).
Dec 40 to Dec 42: Studied at middle school in YENCHI (延吉)
Dec 42 to Jul 44: Completed middle school in KUANTIEN-HSIEN (寬句縣)
Aug 44: Moved to SAIMACHITSUN (■馬集村). Located approximately 120 km S of PENHSIHU (本溪湖).
Feb 45: PW worked as interpreter for the MINAMI MANBU TETSUDO K.K. (South Manchurian Railroad Co, Ltd) in SAIMACHITSUN for Japanese surveyors on a projected railroad line between PENHSIHU and TIENSUFU (田■府).
Mar 45 to Jul 45: PW worked as clerk in charge of attendance records at the MANTETSU JIDOSHA SHURI KOJO (渵銖自動車修理工場) (Automobile Repair Shop of the Manchurian Railroad Co) in SU CH’A TUN (蘇家屯).
Aug 45 to Dec 45: Unemployed. Studied at home in SAIMACHITSUN.
Dec 45: Volunteered for CNA – became First Sergeant of Reconnaissance Plat, 2nd Bn, 105 mm Artillery Regt, 207th Div. Acted as assistant CO of the plat in MUKDEN (奉天).
Feb 45: PW regiment engaged CCF in SHANTAOFU (山道付), North of TIEBLING.
Apr 48 to Oct 48: PW regiment was garrisoned in MUKDEN.
25 Oct 48: The 12th Army of the Chinese Communist 8th Route Army (八路軍) entered MUKDEN after a two-day battle with the Nationalist Army. The Communist 12th Army was at that time composed of three infantry divisions (estimated at 10,000 men per division), one artillery division of 4,000 men, and an unknown number of transport, engineer and communication units. A considerable number of Koreans were in the 12th Army.
27 Oct 48: PW changed to civilian clothes and stayed in HUWTIENSUO (MUKDEN) (奉天) until the middle of Nov 48.
Nov 48 to Dec 48: Resided at TUNGHUA-SHENG, CHIANGNAN-CHIEH (通化縣江南街).
Dec 48 to Mar 49: Farmed at KUAVTIEN-SHIEN, CHANGTIEN-TSUN, HUASHUTIEN-TZU-TUN (寬何縣 長■村 樺樹■子七屯).
Mar 49: PW resided for 3 days with YU, Lien, in KWANTIEN-SHIEN. CHANDECHUN, CHANDEN KIKOU (寬何縣 長伯村 長伯河口). In the early part of Mar 49 PW departed for P’YONGAN PUKTO, UIJU-GUN KOSONG-MYON, CHONGAJE, North KOREA.

4. RESOURCES:
TAEFU (大福) GOLD MINE AREA     LINCHIANG (臨江) MANCHURIA

LOCATION
PW heard from a Manchurian merchant and other residents of LINCHIANG thst the above gold mine was located in a mountainous district called “TAEFU” approximately 3 km NE of LINCHIANG. (See sketch I. TAEFU Gold Mine).

CAPACITY
Unknown. PW heard that the mine was rich in gold deposits.
REMARKS
The gold mine was operated by Japanese until 15 Aug 45. From 1947, the mine was taken over by the Chinese Communist Forces. As of August 1948, gold was being mined under the supervision of the Chinese Communist Forces.

TUNGHUA MILITARY AIRFIELD     TUNGHUA (通化) MANCHURIA

LOCATION
The airfield was located 50 m to 100 m from the southern banks of an unidentified river which flowed through the city of TUNGHUA from north to southwest. Width of the river varied according to the weather. During severe storms, the width of the flow increased from 10 m to about 150 m. Average depth of water was 30 cm to 40 cm in August and 1 m on rainy days in June and July. The river was frozen during the winter season from October to March.
(Note: Information the river is hearsay)
The airfield was situated on a level terrain approximately 4 km south of the old TUNGHUA RR Station, 3 km south of the new TUNGHUA RR Station, 150 m west of the western bridges of CHANNANCHIEH, and 300 m south of the southern boundary of TUNGHUA. The new TUNGHUA RR Station was located about 1 km SW of the old RR Station (See sketch #2)
OBSERVATION
PW entered the above airfield in December 1948 while residing at CHANNANGAI, TUNGHUA. Observation was made for a period of about ten minutes from 1400 hours.
DIMENSIONS
The airfield was 450 m to 500 m wide and over 1 km long. The western extremity of the airfield, which was about 50 m wider than the eastern end, was cultivated and there were indications that it had been used as rice and soybean field after Japan’s surrender.
RUNWAYS AND SURFACE
No runways, taxi strips, aprons, or perimeter tracks were observed. The surface of the airfield was of hard black dirt, covered with a growth of grass 15 cm to 30 cm high.

ACCESS
The sole means of access was a dirt road 3 m wide which passed through CHANNANCHJEH and TUNGHUA and terminated at the eastern end of the airfield. However, since the airfield was not enclosed by any fences or barricades, it was easily accessible to anyone traveling on foot.
BUILDINGS
None observed. This airfield was not used and sowed signs of having been neglected for a long period of time.
METEOROLOGICAL FACTORS
Prevailing wind during the month of December was a mild north wind. There were no rainy days and soon piled to a depth of 10 cm. Weather was generally clear in December.
ADMINISTRATION
The airfield was constructed by the Japanese Army, but was not maintained after the end of the war.
