2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative but not very observant. Reliability, fair.

3. CHRONOLOGY:
2 Dec 31 - Born in MANCHURIA.
18 Dec 46 - Graduated Primary School.
20 Jul 47 - PW quit middle school due to family financial difficulty and assisted his father in farming.
7 Sep 47 - Volunteered into Security organization at HUNCH’UN (琿春) as a switchboard operator.
11 Jan 48 - Two companies from this organization were redesignated the 303d unit and sent to CHI-LIN (吉林). This unit was to fight against the CNA.
15 Feb 48 - PW unit and some other unit was combined and designated 3d Ind Regt at a point near CHI-LIN.
Apr 48 - Joined the 6th Ind Div as a replacement. Attached to 16th Regt, 3d Bn, 9th Co, as a signalman. This Div was engaged in the HSIN KING (新京) enclosing mission.
30 Nov 48 - Div was sent to TA-HU-SHAN (大虎山) to organize the 156th Div, 43d Army. This army, in addition, had 127th, 128th and 129th Div. This army won a victory between T’IEN-SHING (天津) and proceeded south to HAN-KOU (漢口).
9 Jul 50 - 156th Div separated from the Army and went to NAM-CH’ANG (南昌) area as a garrison division. The main body was believed to have gone south.
20 Mar 50 - All Koreans gathered at CHENG-CHOU (鄭洲). PW remembered that 8,200 Koreans assembled there.
7 Apr 50 - Departed CHENG-CHOU by train.
13 Apr 50 - ARRIVED NEAR 38° Parallel and engaged ROK troops. Was told ROK Army was invading North Korea.
13 Oct 50 - Captured at ANBYON.

ECONOMIC:
ARSENAL, NANCHANG (南昌)
Sr Sgt (上士)|Obs: 9 Jul 49 - 30 Mar 50
Location: 13km W of 1.2km bridge at SHENGLICHIAO (勝利橋). NW part of the town at the NW part of horse-shoe shaped lake called SHENYANGHU (瀋陽湖).
Area: 130m x 120m enclosed by 3m electrified barbed wire fence. Six guard towers were located as shown on the sketch. PW was assigned as a guard here during above period.
Buildings: Two brick and one wooden buildings occupied the major portion of the area. PW observed many 45-mm AT Guns and other unidentified guns of various calibres. They were all of US manufacture. This Arsenal worked in two 8-hour shifts, about 50 laborers in each shift.
Since PW was merely a guard, he was unable to observe the interior of these buildings.
Warehouse: Measured 80m x 30m x 25m. Two storied, brick building with gable type roof. He never did observe the interior, but was told by his squad leader before going on post that this building contained various weapons. PW observed about 20 US made 2½-ton 6 x 6 trucks carrying weapons in and out of this arsenal.
Weapon Repair Shop: Measured 80m x 30m x 20m. Brick constructed with gable type roof. Heard from laborers working here that they were repairing various weapons; from small arms to 45-mm AT Guns. No details available.
Ammunition Warehouse: Measured 30m x 30m x 15m. Wooden flat roofed. has told upon being posted that this was an ammunition warehouse but never observed the interior.
Guard Unit quarters: Measured 30m x 30m x 15m. Two storied wooden building with gable type roof. A platoon of 48 men was billeted here. No insignia or chevrons were worn by the men of this unit. The division headquarters was located someplace in the town but PW had no idea where. No other information.
Remarks: PW heard from superior that the weapons repaired here were all captured from the CNA.

TRANSPORTATION:
SHENG LI CHIAO (Victory Bridge) (腥利橋), NANCHIANG
Sr Sgt (上士)|Obs: 9 Jul 49 - 20 Mar 50
This was the only bridge that crossed over the lake (SHENYANGHU 瀋陽湖). Its length was estimated to be 1.2km and width, 20m. Its height above the water line was 15m. Stated that his was the only bridge that led to AN I HSIEN (安義縣) from NANCHANG (南昌). this bridge was fairly old. Two pontoons (30m x 15m x 7) helped support the center of the bridge. PW was told that the Nationalist destroyed the bridge during their retreat in Jun 49. The bridge was believed to be of five construction as indicated in the sketch.
At the west side of the bridge (NANCHANG (南昌) side) was a 30m rotary with a 17m high concrete monument in the center that read SHENGLI TA (勝利橋). This was made by the CCF in Jul 49.
PW heard from his superior that no tanks were permitted to pass the bridge due to its fragileness. However trucks of every size were permissible.
The traffic over this bridge was very heavy. Carts, wagons, and trucks wore always observed crossing the bridge.
Trucks going E were loaded with soldiers, provisions, weapons and ammunition, while the ones coming were loaded with wounded, PW, broken weapons, and lumber. Destination of vehicles, unknown.
A telephone wire was suspended on the N side of the bridge. Details unknown. Four guards each armed with rifles were observed posted 24 hours a day on each side.

ARMED FORCES:
HUN CH’UN Security Organization (琿春保安團)
Sr Sgt (上士)|Obs: 7 Sep 47 - 11 Jan 48
PW voluntarily enlisted in this organization and was assigned as a switchboard operator during the above period.
This organization was first organized in 45 right after the termination of World War Ⅱ. These units were organized in each Province (縣). The organization was as follows:
1st to 3d Sqd consisted of 12 men each. 4th Sqd was a HG squad. Rifle squad (1st to 3d) had Jap made 99 and 38 model rifles. HG squad had 2 Japanese made LMG (99 type) in addition. No other weapons were observed within this organization.
This organization consisted of volunteers from 16 to 25 who were in good physical condition. Joining this organization was supposed to be due to pride, but actually was because of individual’s financial problems.
With the exception of 3 months in winter, the organization was engaged in production. Training was only basic. No other information.
