1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: SO, Su Bok
AGE: 21
RANK: Pvt
DUTY: Ammo Bearer
UNIT: NKA 12th Div, 1st Regt, 2d Bn, Mortar Co, 3d Plat, 5th Sqd
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 11 Mar 51 at approx 1000 hr at French Bn Sector (DS218507)
CAPTURED BY: French Bn, 23d Inf Regt
INTERROGATOR: Sfc MURATA

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative and answered all questions freely but, because he had escaped approx 25 days before surrendering to UN Forces, tactical information was limited. Information seems fairly reliable.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
During an air attack by UN Force Planes source, a former ROK soldier, with 3 other NKA soldiers who wished to join the ROKA, escaped their unit and for approx 25 days traveled through mountain trails. Hid in villages, heading always southward, with the intention of contacting any UN Force and surrendering to them. They surrendered 11 Mar 51 at approx 1000 hr to the French Bn, 23d Regt.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Elements of 7th Div:
O/a 6 Mar 51, observed approx 100 NK soldiers of the NK 7th Div vic of HONGCHON digging foxholes.

b. Weapons:
Weapons observed were: 3-4x82 mortars, 2 HMG, 2 LMG, and all troops had either PPSH SNG, US M1 Rifles, carbines, or Russian rifles. Since source observed this group from a distance he does not know of the ammo supply on hand. Hand grenades were also carried by individuals around waist.

c. UN Air Strike:
Saw one UN plane attack this group at approx 2000 hr 6 Mar 51. Heavy casualties were inflicted by this attack. The village in which source hid was also attacked by this lone UN plane. There were several wounded or sick NK soldiers in one of the houses. In villages, the attack was effective, because several troops were wounded. Saw approx. 7 wounded being carried on litters to another village on the following day while hiding in mountain nearby.

d. Stragglers:
Source and the 3 others, who escaped with him, then headed southward. On several occasions they ran across NK stragglers who were trying to locate their unit.
