UNIT: NKA 12th Div, 2d Regt, 2d Bn, 6th Co, 3d Plat
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 111000 Mar 51 at CHONGGUM-NI (DS205495)

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative, but due to the fact that he and 3 other men had been wandering away form their unit ever since 15 Feb 51, no tactical information of value was obtained. Information seems to be reliable.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
After being attacked and defeated by UN Forces o/a 15 Feb 51 in vic of CHECH’ON, the 12th Div retreated northward. During the retreat, PW separated from his unit because he was sick and was left behind. He wandered around the hills, afraid of being captured by UN Forces, but was finally captured by the French Bn 111000 Mar 51.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Elements of 6th and 7th Div
PW was at HAMGOGAE (DS2549) from 24 Feb to 1 Mar 51 and there in the same village, observed about 200 soldiers of the 6th and 7th Div. Troops were in houses and were constantly attacked by UN aircraft.

b. Air Strike
On the nights of 27 Feb, 28 Feb and 1 Mar 51, the troops were attacked by a lone UN aircraft. The plane dropped 5 Napalm bombs. PW credits the bombing as uncanny, for all bombs scored direct hits on houses quartering troops. The troops, after experiencing night air attacks, would free from the houses at the sound of an aircraft at night.

c. Land Mines
At evening of 10 Mar 51, observed a mine in the yard of a house at CHONGGUM-NI (DS205495). The mine was buried in dirt with the detonator protruding from the surface. The mine was covered with straw with a taut string about a foot long tied to the detonator. The house where the mine was, was the first house on the right side of the road, when entering CHONGGUM-NI from the east.
