1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative but lacked info due to his being unfamiliar with place names and dates in KOREA.
Limited info obtained, however, seems fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Personal and Unit History:
Conscripted 7 Apr 47 at HEILUNG CHIANG SHENG, (黑龍江) into CNA 1st Army received 3 months training.
Captured 10 Oct 48 at LIAO HIS SHENG (遼西省) by CCF 42nd Army and assigned to the present unit. Received no CCF training.
42nd Army departed for PEIPING (北京), arriving during Nov 48.
42nd Army regrouped and equipped for about 1 month at PEIPING before departing for ANYANG HSIEN (安陽縣), arriving Mar 49.
Battled for one month in ANYANG HSIEN before departing for HUPEI SHENG (湖北省), arriving during Jun 49.
42nd Army engaged in mopping-up operations for approx 6 months in that area.
42nd Army arrived at HEI LUNG, CHIANG SHENG during Apr 50 and engaged in agricultural production for approx two months.
Departed there in Jul 50 and arrived at LIAO TUNG SHENG (遼東省) during same month. 42nd Army engaged in reorganization of unit when orders were received to proceed to KOREA.
Departed during Sep 50 after having been issued arms and ammo. Arrived at MANPOJIN (RA7359) during Sep 50.
42nd Army traveled through unknown places and arrived in SAMDONG (BU5520) area, where it fought for approx 4 days. Then proceeded southward, arriving in 38th Parallel area.
42nd Army arrived in KAPYONG (CS5988) area and engaged in a one day battle. Then proceeded to the YANGPYONG (CS 6550) area during Feb 51 and battled for six days.
Approx a week after arriving here, PW surrendered.
42nd Army was conducting offensive warfare at this time.

b. Location and Activities of Unit:
42nd Army last seen in defensive positions in areas northwest of YANGPYONG (CS6550) (Last seen on 20 Feb 51).
Present mission of 1st Bn was to defend its area.

42nd Army: 124th, 125th and 126th Div, Arty Bn, Sig Co, Training Unit, Propaganda Unit, Stretcher Unit, Transportation Unit, and Med Unit.
128th Div: 376th, 377th and 378th Regt, Mountain Gun Co, Sig Plat, Training Unit, Propaganda Unit, Transportation Unit, and Med Unit.
378th Regt: 3 Rifle Bn, 92nd Inf Gun Co, Sig Sqd, Hq Unit, Med Unit, and Propaganda Unit.
Each Rifle Bn: 3 Rifle Co, and HMG Co.
Each Rifle Co: 3 Rifle Plat, and 60mm Mortar Plat.
Each Rifle Plat: 3 Rifle Sqd.

e. Food, Ammo and Other Supplies:
Food was procured locally in sufficient amounts. Two meals were eaten daily.
Not issued any ammo since the time he entered KOREA. Ammo source or supply routes were unknown.

f. Morale and Battle Effectiveness:
Aircraft and constant shelling affected morale considerably.
Due to movements during the night and being attacked during the day, sleep was impossible for the troops.

g. Signal:
Telephones were used between companies and battalions. Heard that wireless radios were used within the battalion, but no details were available.

h. Psychological Warfare:
PW surrendered voluntarily because of hardships encountered in CCF Army.
UN leaflets were seen while in South KOREA.
It urged the soldiers to surrender, as they would be given good treatment.
Believed its contents and surrendered.
No conversations concerning the leaflets had been noted.
