FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0111) 7 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: LEE Kwan Jin
AGE: 32

DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 061700 Feb 51 at locality 10 km N of HOENGSONG.

2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative and seemed to be intelligent. Information seems to be reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. CIRCUMSTANCES OF CAPTURE:
061000 Feb 51, deserted vic of HOENGSONG while unit was moving into battle positions. After successfully escaping, PW surrendered.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. T/O & E:
12th Div intentions were to infiltrate enemy lines and engage in guerrilla warfare.
Strength of the 1st Regt was estimated to be about 7-800. Mortar Co and an HMG Co attached to each Bn. Weapons in the 1st Bn: 6 x 60mm mortars (300 rd total), 2 LMG per plat (Degtyarev) (2,000 rd ea), 6 HMG (7.62mm Maxim M1910) (ammo unk), 25 rifles per Plat (150 rd ea), 4 US carbines per Co (ammo unk), 5 Russian rifles per plat (150 rd ea), 3 PPsh SMG per sqd (250 rd ea), 1 US LMG per Co (300 rd ea), 3 Hand grenades per man.
Small quantity of ammo supplies were received frequently. Believes that ammo was transported by ox carts.
Saw 2 field phones in his Bn (1st). He also saw a wireless set at the 1st Regt Hq.

Unit assignment intention:
1st Regt CP was located approx 14 km N of HOENGSONG in a little village between 2 hills. Men hid in bomb shelters during the day and remained in the village at night.
1st Regt 1st Bn CP was located approx 8 km N of HOENGSONG in a small village also.
CCF and NKA were resting and preparing for their 4th phase operation and were awaiting for orders. PW heard that planes and tanks would be used during their general offensive. Also heard from officers in his unit that the Russians were training N Korean pilots.

c. ROK PW:
All ROK prisoners were given 1 month communist training then sent to the front lines with a weapon. There were 6 ROK to every plat in his company and they were willing and glad to fight against the UN Forces.

d. Clothing:
Every one in 12th Div wore cotton quilted winter uniforms with white linings.

e. Medical:
Neither saw or head of any contagious diseases.

f. Food:
Unit received no food supply but food found in deserted villages was sufficient.

g. Physical Conditions:
Every one was healthy and very few men (2% in Bn) were effected by frostbite.

h. Morale:
Morale in PW Co high, for they considered themselves formidable.
