3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
ⅡKK Corps: 9th Div, (Code Name: KUMGANG-SAN), 2nd Div, and one other unknown Division.
9th Division: (1st Code Name: TAEDONG GANG), 2nd, and 3rd Rifle Regt, Arty Bn, Security Co, Signal Co. 1 Recon Co, and Engr Co.
1st Rifle Regt: 3 Rifle Battalions, Mortar Co, Security Plat, Recon Platoon and Signal Plat.
1st Rifle Bn: 3 Rifle Co, Signal Sqd, and Recon Sqd.
1st Rifle Co: 3 Rifle Platoons.

Personnel losses were caused by exposure (50%), UN air strikes (10%), and battle casualties (40%).
Approximately 40% of the troops were unarmed. These troops were to pick up abandoned weapons.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES:
18 Jan 51, 9th Div departed PUNGGI-MYON(DR5485) and marched toward YONGWOL (DS5314). 1st Regt was the forward element followed by the 2nd Regt and the Div Hq and Hq Unit. The 3rd Regt was in the rear. PW heard from his Co CO that they were going to YONGWOL.
PW believes that the 9th Div will eventually go to HWACHON (CT8617) because he heard from his Company Commander that when they reached HWACHON winter uniform would be available.
PW heard from his Co CO on 21 Jan 51 that the entire Ⅱ Corps is now heading Northward.
O/a 20 Jan 51, the Ⅱ Corps Hq departed PUNGGI-MYON and headed Northward.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
PW was inducted into the NKA at WONSAN (CU6536) on 28 Aug 48.
PW was assigned to the 3rd DIv, Ind 1st Rifle Bn and received 6 mos training (basic infantry) at HUNGNAM.
During Feb 49, PW and 60 others from the 3rd Div were dispatched to CHORWON (CT4334) to construct defensive positions.
Mar 49, the 3rd Div arrived at PYONGGANG (CT5153). Training was conducted by each regiment of the 3rd Div in the PYONGGANG area. Training consisted largely of close order drill, rifle familiarization on the range, and a little of platoon tactics.
25 Jun 50, the 3rd Div attacked Southward toward SEOUL.
PW and 40 others were released from duty with the 3rd Div on 27 Jun 50.
PW and 40 others were sent to WONSAN where they were assigned to the TONGHAE (東海) Brigade.
TONGHAE Brigade departed WONSAN on 25 Jul 50 and traveled through CHORWON, SEOUL (o/a 1 Aug 50), TAEJON (CQ5921) (o/a 7 Aug 50), I-RI (CQ1578) (o/a 13 Aug 50), CHONJU (CQ3269), NAMWON (CQ5318) (o/a 16 Aug 50), SUNCHON (CP6168) (o/a 25 Aug 50), and arrived at YOSU (CP 8443) on 28 Aug 50. After arriving in YOSU the TONGHAE Brigade was redesignated as the NAMHAE(南海) Brigade. The NAMHAE Brigade engaged in Security of the YOSU area.
On 15 Sep 50, the NAMHAE Brigade departed YOSU and retreated north. Each battalion of the brigade separated and were ordered to assemble at CH’UNCHON (CS8893).
PW fled Northward with the 2nd Bn, NAMHAE Brigade through CHIRISAN (CQ8410), SOBAEK Mountain Range (小白山脈), and TAEBAEK Mountain Range (太白山脈), to ODAE SAN (DS6081), arriving at ODAE SAN o/a 30 Nov 50. The 2nd Bn, NAMHAE Brigade fled further Northward to PYONGGANG (CT5153), arriving there on 5 Dec 50. Approximately 700 men of the NAMHAE Brigade assembled at PYONGGANG by 15 Dec 50.
15 Dec 50, the 700 troops of the NAMHAE Brigade were assigned to the newly organized 1st Mobile Regt and 2nd Mobile Regt of the Ⅱ Corps at PYONGGANG.
The 1st and 2nd Mobile Regt each conscripted stragglers of other NKA Units to bring the regimental strength to 600.
17 Dec 50, the 1st and 2nd Mobile Regt of the Ⅱ Corps departed PYONGGANG and travelled through KUMHWA (CT6538) and CHORWON (CT4334) and arrived at YONCHON (CT3117) on 20 Dec 50.
20 Dec 50, the 2nd Mobile Regt engaged UN Units South of YONCHON and suffered heavy losses (approx. 33%)/
22 Dec 50, the 1st and 2nd Mobile Regiments were ordered to depart from YONCHON for PYONGGANG.
Departing YONCHON on 22 Dec 50, the 1st and 2nd Mobile Regiments arrived at PYONGGANG on 25 Dec 50.
25 Dec 50, the 1st and 2nd Mobile Regiments were deactivated and the troops were assigned to the 9th Div in PYONGGANG.
27 Dec 50, the 9th Div departed PYONGGANG and travelled through HWACHON, YANGJU (DT1117), YONGWOL (DS5314) to PUNGGU MYON (DR5485), arriving at PUNGGI MYON o/a 18 Jan 51.
18 Jan 51, the 9th Div departed PUNGGI MYON and marched toward YONGWOL.
PW was separated from his unit on 21 Jan 51 at CHOJON-NI (DS 5008) because he was ill.
PW was captured by the US 31st RCT at CHOJON-NI on 24 Jan 51.

6. PERSONALITIES:

7. REPLACEMENTS:
No replacements were received by the 9th Div since PW assignment to the Division (25 Dec 50).

8. FOOD, AMMO, AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
Food was procured locally by the 9th Div after entering South KOREA. While marching, 3 days rations were carried by each individual.
No ammo was supplied to the 9th Div since entering South KOREA. 9th Div troops were issued ammo last at PYONGGANG on 27 Dec 50.
PW was told by his Company Commander on 21 Jan 51 that winter uniforms for the 9th Div were in HWACHON.

9. SIGNAL:
Due to the lack of batteries the wireless transceivers with the 1st Regt, 9th Div were not used.
Telephones were used at battalions and higher levels. There were no reserve batteries, and telephones cannot be operated after the present stock becomes exhausted.

10. MORALE:
Morale of the 9th Div troops was low because of the intense cold and lack of proper clothing. PW states that 60% of the troops were suffering from frozen feet.
Approximately 50% of the 9th Div troops participated in combat prior to entering South KOREA (27 Jan 51).

11. MEDICAL:

a. None.

a. Frozen feet were bandaged. No other treatment.
