2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. Reliability – Good.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
3 Aug 48 – Inducted into the NK Security Forces in TAEDONG-GUN (大同郡).
3 Sep 48 – Assigned to CHINNAMP’O (鎭南浦) Security Brigade.
17 Feb 49 – Transferred to the 3rd Brigade, 4th Bn of the NK Security Forces in SARIWON (沙里院).
Apr 49 – His unit moved to TAET’AN (苔灘). Performed security duty near the 38th parallel and in the vicinity of TAET’AN (苔灘).
25 Jun 50 – Crossed the 38th parallel and occupied the town of ONGJIN (甕津).
17 Jul 50 – The 3rd Brigade of the Security Forces was deactivated. The 9th Div of the North Korean Regular Army was newly organized with former members of the 3rd Security Brigade and an unknown number of draftees at MUNSAN (汶山). PW promoted to Jr Sgt, assigned to 1st Regt, 3rd Bn AT Gun Plat as an ammo bearer.
20 Jul 50 – The 9th Div advanced to SEOUL and performed security duty.
1 Aug 50 – The 9th Div advanced to INCH’ON and performed security duty.
25 Sep 50 – The 9th Div advanced to CH’ANGNYONG (昌寧). Started to retreat toward KUMCH’ON (金泉).
30 Sep 50 – Arrived KUMCH’ON (金泉). The 9th Div was attacked by UN Forces in the vicinity of KUMCH’ON (金泉) and was defeated. PW deserted the 9th Div and retreated north.
8 Nov 50 – Arrived HAMHUNG (咸興). Reassigned to the reorganized 2nd Inf Div. 17th Regt, 3rd Bn, 7th Co.
As of Nov 50 – The 2nd Div departed HAMHUNG for P’YONGGANG (平康).
10 Dec 50 – Arrived P’YONGGANG (平康).
25 Dec 50 – The 2nd Div advanced to the outskirt of HONGCH’ON (洪川). PW deserted his unit again.
26 Dec 50 – Captured in HONGCH’ON (洪川).

b. Unit Organization and Strength:

c. Unit History:
The 2nd Div believed to have reorganized at HAMHUNG (咸興) as of 8 Nov 50. Draftees were received as replacements. It now consists of 4 Regts (4th, 6th, 17th and Arty Regts). Each Regt consists of 4 Bns. Each Bn consists of 3 Co’s and one Hq Co.

d. Personalities:
CH’OE, Hyon (崔鉉), Korean, Maj Gen, CG 2nd Div, 40.
Height: 1.50m – Weight : 60 kg – Build: Heavy, fat – Complexion: Dark – Round face, wore glasses.
He was CG of the 9th NKA Div Sep 50. He was assigned CG 2nd Div as of 8 Nov 50 (Sic). Last seen at TAET’AN (苔灘) in May 50.

f. Intentions:
2nd Div was ordered to keep close contact with North Korean guerrilla units in order to attack enemy rear lines.

g. Morale:
Low.

h. Supply:
Each man carried 3 days rations and 300 rds ammo for small arms. Rear ammo depots were located with Div CP.

i. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
The wounded were taken to Bn first aid station and received medical care. Seriously wounded (requiring surgery) were left in civilian hospitals behind the lines.

j. Replacements:
No replacements were received since reorganization on 8 Nov 50.
